'The ever-reliable Kuukou Records continues with stern and burly intent with an onslaught of releases ready for dance-floors as they continue to open up across the beginning of 2022. Simina Grigoriu's label follows on Kuukou's last EP with a fresh with a single featuring 2 feisty remixes from I AM BAM and Southampton based artist Melody's Enemy.

It's evident from the very first kick drum that 'Instant Communication' slots effortlessly into the Kuukou catalogue; the title track drives a heaving kick under flashing 909 hats before the whole recording opens up into a dark and cinematic breakdown. Rasping low-end rips under strings and vocal snips, swelling with tension before sparking the floor back up with powerful effect.

Thundering & menacing from the very first kick drum, I AM BAM’s remix of ‚Instant Communication‘ takes the listener higher with pure, ruthless rave energy. The arps weave an infectious & hypnotic journey throughout the track blending seamlessly into the rhythm of the drums. Bam’s signature raw, energy shines through and delivers us a warehouse stomper destined to elevate any dancefloor instantly.
Melody's Enemy then concludes things with his take - a slightly more stripped version which relies on deft sound design, a consistent sense of pressure and filtered vocals which round off another sterling addition to a catalogue of music going from strength to strength.'

Belgian techno don Marco Bailey lands on Watergate with a debut that’s guaranteed to intrigue as he leans into electro territory. 

DJ, producer and label chief, his is a storied career that spans three decades, and it’s long been evident that Marco’s enthusiasm and passion remains resolute. He closed 2021 with the release of his sixth studio album Surreal Stage, an ambitious, introspective body of work that dropped via his booming imprint Materia. His own label aside, his discography is stacked with cuts across eminent labels Second State, ARTS, Bedrock Records, as well as being one of the first artists to debut on Carl Cox’s seminal INTEC. While it’s techno that he’s become firmly associated with, his adeptness in the studio isn’t limited to the nuances of one genre and this is a rare opportunity to showcase a different side to his musicality. 

It’s ‘From My Mind’ that delivers first and sticks in your mind - from the heavy synth bassline to the soaring ascendant melody, and distorted, robotic vocals. ‘The Spirit’ floods in next, almost immediately engaging listeners as it ebbs and flows with complete abandon. If the promise of electro grabbed your attention, ‘Pulse’ slaps and packs plenty of punch power as it snakes its way through with dominating, ascendant chords.

German duo Extrawelt and Belgian export Biesmans step in with rerubs of ‘From My Mind’, and firmly grip some of the elements which make this electro excursion so memorable. Steve Rachmad seizes his Sterac Electronics alias, staying true to form in getting deeper and darker with a brooding, stirring trip that begs for immediate replay. Techno linchpin The Advent links up with Zein Ferreira, delivering a cut that blazes with ascending notes and a scattering of twisted elements beneath the winding vocal bleed. Axel Haube, a rising Belgian artist, is last in and he weaves a rolling bassline through a rerub that lifts the mood with a celestial melody and skyward keys.

"The artist behind the latest Chrom EP is Jon Ojeda aka alias_j. His debut solo release in 2021 on Pig & Dan's ELEVATE has been skyrocketing the Beatport charts, just like his first remix a few months later on Loöq Records.

The release opens with ‘Recovery Loss’, a driving melodic techno cut with heaps of gritty harmonies and ethereal frequencies. Its roughened drum sequencing and crisp hat grooves pave the way for a pulsating bassline and mystic synth lines as it travels through a myriad of atmospheric storytelling segments into climactic builds and electrifying drops. 

‘Generation Now’ follows suit with more interplanetary vibes from the outset. Punchy kicks and fizzing percussive energy lead the track into rising melodies and rippling bass notes with sirenic vox chops dotted in between its saw-like persona, carving out another galactic-infused standout dancefloor cut.

The EP comes to a close with ‘The Fight feat. McFiendish’, completing a trio of compelling signature records. Another flurry of poignant drum work and delicate instrumental cadence pave the way for an endless sea of individual melodic elements, forging a journeyman’s tale across the universe with gripping vocals and intrinsically touching emotions from start to finish. "
