Anyone who was following our movements last year will have noticed we announced a project with the motivation to help address the gender imbalance in drum and bass: Balance. In collaboration with House of Hi-Fi, we invited female producers of all levels to submit original productions to us with a view to the best submissions being worked on and released as part of an EP. We're stoked to say the first volume of Balance is here!

It has been a long journey to get to this point, and a big learning curve for the label team, but we couldn't be happier to be presenting three very talented womxn - @asha-binx, @djcaitc and @insight_sounds. From naughty wubs to dancefloor melodies to dreamy liquid, we've got three awesome producers bringing three unique vibes. This will be a debut release for both Asha Binx and Insight, but CaitC is a name some of you may already be familiar with - especially if you were at Rampage earlier this year.

In the grand scheme of gender inequality, Balance may only be a small gesture, but House of Hi-Fi and Onyx Recordings hope it provides the females who take part with a platform to grow, develop and showcase their ability to a wider audience. That's why we will be opening the submission window for Balance Vol. 2 very soon. Keep an eye out for the announcement! But until then, get acquainted with the sounds of Asha Binx, CaitC and Insight, because they'll be lighting up the D&B scene in the near future.

Dirtyphonics have been part of the Rampage family for a long time, have premiered all their epic Liive shows at the event and in 2018 they dropped ‘Scorpion’ on the brand’s record label, one of very few drum&bass tracks they have done since they moved to the States 10 years ago. It was a heavy-hitting and very Pendulum-esque workout, albeit abundantly drenched in trademark Dirty darkness, and did big numbers on Beatport and Spotify. Fast forward a few years, and drum&bass is making waves Stateside and many dubstep acts are working on 174 beats and of course, the Dirties are ahead of the pack again. Before they bring out the new ammo, ‘Scorpion’ is getting the remix treatment from Wodd, another French artist on the rise, and now part of the infamous Kannibalen family, and sure shot dancefloor destroyer Tantrum Desire, attacking both dubstep and drum&bass raves.

Bare Up is one of those guys that is just waiting to pop. Everytime he drops a tune, he gets heads to turn and eyebrows to raise, and rightfully so. Sound design is unique and very much on point, and he injects his tracks with a dose of dancefloor energy without ever walking the trodden path. These two are no different. On the one hand there’s ‘I Don’t Want To Fight’ which is an absolute cluster bomb of a track that has it all: captivating vocal, huge synth line, incredible build up and an insane drop that is 100% Bare Up. Then there’s ‘Slow Down’ that showcases how this man can create a power surge with the most minimalist sounds. ‘Fight’ is getting the upload by UKF and ‘Slow Down’ by Skankandbass which marks the difference, and the way they compliment each other beautifully.

Having your debut release played by Macky Gee, DJ Hazard, Harriet Jaxxon and Murdock at the world’s biggest drum&bass party is no small feat, but it’s exactly what happened when Bare Up sent out “Pull Up” and all four dj’s gave it a spin at Rampage.
