Reported story for podcast and radio production. The process of finding a worthwhile story is not an easy one. Finding something that is interesting enough for radio is even harder. Pitching, the first step, is the reason that many stories are not told. One must refine their idea until it is straight as an arrow. After this, the journalist must seek out those who will help them on this story. Sending out emails to various organizations, people, friends, family, and everything in between is tedious and can leave any person feeling defeated after not receiving the response they’re looking for. Myself, I had about 3 interviews fall through my hands over the course of 2 weeks but eventually got what I needed. While this story is not how I originally planned on telling it, I had to settle for it as the clock kept ticking. Going on site for my interview was very intimidating but I knew that in the end it would all be worth it and thankfully my interviewee was cooperative enough. The story I originally planned on telling was to be about gentrification, then went to assault on campus, and eventually came to the changing mexican and puerto rican population over the past 2 or 3 years. It is not the way I had planned on telling but one must roll with the punches. All I have to say about this is that journalism is a defeating and tiring profession. Is it worth it? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. At the end of the day a story must be told and there are those among us who have that talent and those that do not.
