Barbara and Basic Moves have been sending emails back and forth the last 7 years since she works at Scape Mastering alongside engineer Stefan Betke. She is a super skilled dj with a backpack full of experience and knowledge of club music and beyond. It felt logical to us to send another kind of email that wasn't an order form or payment confirmation. hahaha.

This mix puts both our feet back on the ground. Barbara fluently mixes minimal house and dub techno with a unique groove that feels so timeless and oh so clubbbbbyyy. Thanks a lot for teaching and showing us your way.

What’s in Barbara’s backpack? She started her career in Munich working for Disko-B in the mid nineties and soon became a resident at the green flokati room of the cult venue Ultraschall. In 1998 she left for Berlin to work as a freelance press and radio promoter. Around 1999 she co-found the label ˜scape, together with Stefan Betke aka Pole, creating an open platform for the productions of Kit Clayton, Jan Jelinek, Deadbeat, Pole amongst many others.

Autumn 2009 Barbara Preisinger founded the 12inch vinyl label SLICES OF LIFE which is focused on organic sounding and diverse club music, with releases by Betke, Mike Huckaby, Baaz, John Tejada and The Mole. The label´s founding year also marked the beginning of the event series DEEP IN THE BOX with regular parties at Berlin´s Club der Visionäre, Wilde Renate, Ipse among other places. In September 2015 Barbara Preisinger moved DEEP IN THE BOX to the Globus floor at Berlin´s legendary TRESOR club, where she has been hosting her parties every 2 months since then.

Maayan Nidam is without a doubt an artist that conjures thoughts of the finest, slinkiest minimal to have appeared on labels such as Perlon, Wolf + Lamb and Giegling. There is of course much more to Maayan than this. Our next contributor, Eli Verveine (@eli-verveine), has been DJing for over 20 years, first establishing herself at local Zurich venues like Dachkantine and later on international stages.

Verveine’s DJing is patient, and it rewards that same patience in the listener. In this Q&A we dive into this concept and how it applies more generally to learning the art of DJing over time. Anecdotes from parties over the years – including an earlier epic set at Renate – help illustrate how Verveine has navigated the dilemmas of expressing creativity from the DJ booth.

The accompanying mix is a live recording of a recent gig in Gothenburg, and after a measured opening you can soon hear the crowd roar their appreciation during the breaks in Lil Louis’s ‘Blackout’ – patience, as ever, bringing its just rewards.

No stranger to Delayed is our focus for today, as we’re happy to feature the sounds of Christopher Ledger. His productions, remixes, and edits never stray far from the crates or conversations around tracks with an incredible groove, or that age so so well. Not only to add to the quality are the breadth of releases that he’s accrued over the years. Working through ambient, to breaks and minimal house and back again. You can just tell how his passion for the craft is the guiding hand.

As with his productions, his selections for today are top notch, leading to one of those mixes that will keep your head nodding along for the duration. Full to the brim with that signature dance ready style that we’ve come to know and love with the Italian DJ and producer.

For as long as Eli Verveine has been mixing records she has strived for the perfect groove and flow, the one that keeps you moving and the dancefloor rocking. After two decades, thousands of satisfied dancers will happily testify to her uncanny knack of finding and working that groove. Since honing her skills over years warming up the dancefloor, she has developed into a superlative peak-time DJ who also still loves to play extended after-hours sets like those she laid down at Zurich's legendary Dachkantine in the 00's. Her sound is timeless, a smoothly-blended mix of deeper house and techno from two weeks or two decades ago that's always warm, groovy and tastefully euphoric. In addition to her club sets, Eli's podcasts (most notably for Resident Advisor and the much-missed mnml ssgs blog) have become cult favourites amongst discerning listeners worldwide. Despite increasing global recognition, she still maintains strong links to her local scene in Zurich - as well as a longstanding residency at Zukunft (the town's most established destination for discerning clubbers), she still loves playing at warehouse parties and has previously put in the hours at local radio station Radio Lora whilst working at her local record shop. And if all this wasn't enough, Eli still finds time to run Tardis Records together with her Berlin-based ally Oscar Schubaq, releasing a succession of deeper club tracks by some of her musical heroes as well as her debut EP with Schubaq.
