We've had requests for a recording of this version for years at shows, and finally got one worthy of the live energy it creates.  This "Hunter / Paid Dues / Organ Grinder" mashup began as a Buddy Peace & Dan Le Sac live arrangement, got reworked by the new live band and fitted w/ a hellfire outtro, and finally resulted in this recording, performed in front of Boston hardcoah crowd, no less!

Audio is from B. DOLAN's sold out show at the Middle East last November with CIRCLE TAKES THE SQUARE.  The musicians featured here are ADAM SCHNEIDER on guitar, DAN THE GERMAN on backing tracks & Voyager, and BRAD CAETANO on drums.  

B. DOLAN will be touring throughout 2014 in support of HOUSE OF BEES VOL. 3 (due out this summer) and an official LP slated for release in the fall.  All of this begins TOMORROW NIGHT in DENVER, followed by shows in ALBUQUERQUE, DENTON TX and a March 14th Showcase at SXSW alongside Sage Francis, Wheelchair Sports Camp and more. Where do we draw the line in terms of free speech? It was not that long ago when our thoughts were largely subdued by those around us, or by the authorities, if our views were radically different from the status quo. Thankfully, the advent of technology has allowed everybody to develop their own platform, but only with great responsibility. Operation Mockingbird is named after the alleged 1950s CIA propaganda project, supposedly aimed to influence media for political gain. Production wise, Tonio Sagan sticks with a head moving, yet off-the-wall at times beat to set the foundation as the East Coast Regional DMC Finalist, DJ NEB , lays down the cuts on the hook, while the rest of the operation reflectively speak on growing up through a series of hard knocks. "Repeat" is out now, so hit play and turn this one up high before their next heater is unleashed.

The song, Gin & Tonic, is a spiritual sequel to his 2015 song Rum & Coke, but with a disenchanted tone and a discouraged outlook. Maybe Red Pill is a hip-hop curmudgeon, but the new album demonstrates his ability to make himself vulnerable, wear his heartbreak on his plaid sleeve.

"The concept behind this track is more of an aspirational idea v.s. a concrete statement. I was feeling like I needed to give myself a pep talk when I wrote this and remind the people around me that it's going to be okay no matter what ugly turns our world takes...Just keep doing dope shit.

One of my favorite things about this track was collaborating with my roommate at the time, Charlie Rauh. He's an awesome dude and extremely talented guitar player. We've now made a handful of really dope beats together but this was the first one. We just started messing around, sampling his guitar through some effects on an Organelle routed into Ableton Live and in a matter of minutes we had a foundation to build on. Essentially the first verse is what he and I made together and then from there I built the hook, verse 2 and the rest of the track from recycled elements of what we initially laid down so it evolves throughout."

Trusting The Universe

Eligh, a self-described “genre-breaking, obsessive bass fiend” has continued to sustain himself as a salient figure for over fifteen years within the increasingly fickle and rapidly revolving world of hip-hop. The Los Angeles native has maintained his respected status by fearlessly veering from a the traditional trajectory which is often limited to beats and rhymes. Instead, Eligh has chosen to fabricate projects that incorporate the gritty sounds of the UK dub scene, the unorthodox styling of indie rock, the lush guitars and honesty of folk music, and the complexity of jazz, all without losing the listener in a musically esoteric composition.

2018 will mark the release of Eligh's 10th official solo album. His last self produced album, Grey Crow, was a testament to his resilience against a drug addiction that nearly took his life 12 years ago. Grey Crow was the first official solo release from Eligh since 2003’s Poltergeist. Even with the seven-year gap between solo projects Eligh continued to contribute to a plethora of projects within that time frame which, most notably include, Living Legends albums, “Classic” and “The Gathering”; The Grouch & Eligh, “No More Greener Grasses” and “Say G&E!”; Eligh & Jo Wilkinson, “On Sacred Ground: Mother & Son”, and many more.

Eligh’s musical interest was piqued as middle schooler, and along with some friends formed the now defunct, yet legendary Log Cabin crew. That same crew would ultimately end up producing many of Los Angeles’s prominent hip-hop figures, including future crewmates, Murs and Scarub. After a stint in the Bay Area, which lead to a serendipitous gathering of minds, ideas and styles that formed the now world famous Living Legends crew, Eligh returned home to Los Angeles. Since returning home, Eligh has tirelessly produced classic material, being the main contributor to what many would dub the trademark, “Living Legends sound”. Outside of being a studio musician and rapper, Eligh has relentlessly toured and has performed on stages across North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia and continues to deliver a captivating live show with his trademark rapid fire delivery, whether as a solo act or with his Legendary brethren. As a producer, Eligh has provided music for notable acts such as Living Legends, Murs, Rass Kass, El-P, wrestler John Cena, and continues to be a sought after producer by his peers.

In 2016, "Grand Tapestry" was released. A group formed by Eligh, Alam Khan, and Salar Nader, Grand Tapestry is a unique mix of classical Indian music, and hip hop, in line with Eligh's "Genre breaker" moniker. That journey is just beginning, and he see's the groups potential as limitless. His goal to score film had always been apart of his story, and Eligh hopes to speak it into existence in the coming months.
