‘D974’ quickly explodes into a full-bore warehouse banger, throughout which Welsh employs rave stabs and cavernous basslines to eye-watering effect. Nonetheless, amid the madness, Welsh’s taste for psychedelia peeks through the darkness and into the strobe light.

On the contrary, 'Boltmaker' reintroduces Welsh's more nuanced commitment to analogue electronics and sheer suspense, riding along on a razor-sharp groove that undulates between flourishes of melody that prove to be in turn both menacing and surprisingly meditative.
