In an in depth interview, they discuss the ins and outs of football, including the pressures of being a low draft pick, different coaching styles, pre-match preparations and the joy of kicking a winning goal. They also discuss how being school captain has helped his leadership skills and shape his career as a footballer.

Dr. Diego Gomez-Nicola

Dr. Diego Gomez-Nicola is a lecturer and Primary Investigator based at the University of Southampton. Following the completion of his BSc in Neurobiology at Complutense University of Madrid, Spain, Diego then carried out his MSc and PhD at Autonoma University of Madrid, Spain. Since then Dr. Gomez-Nicola has set up his own laboratory group based at Southampton General hospital focusing on the role of microglia in disease. Dr. Gomez-Nicola is a very active member of the research community publishing many key research papers. A link to which can be found below.

What's up in this episode?
This episode is looking at the analysis of lipid-protein interaction, studied by tryptophan residues using fluorescence spectrometry. Protein surface interacts with lipid membrane in terms of hydrophobic matching to allow protein stabilise in the environment. Their interaction is important because of their major part in drug targeting. Lipid and protein distort to adapt when the thickness of membrane changed. The analysis of lipid-protein interaction being one of the actively studied topics. The interaction can be analysed by measuring the tryptophan quenching in fluorescence spectrometry. In this episode, Yen introduces the interviews held with Prof Malcolm East, the principal investigator in membrane protein, and Helen Tam, a biochemist. Next, Yen discussed the points made by the invited guests.
