Originally uploaded on 25/05/2021, ‘retread’ was an opportunity to step back into the style of music I used to write at the beginning, a chance to explore what more I could do with that sound using what I’d learnt about synth's and production in the year preceding.

It was a lot of fun experimenting and I feel I could have spent another week or so writing different parts, forever tweaking effects and EQ’s. I hope you enjoy the listen and feel free to leave some feedback!

Amor Fati

'Terra' is the first single from my new EP 'The Only Way Out Is Through'. Written and arranged in the latter half of last year, this single was another deep delve into the possibilities available through wavetable synthesis.This track and the EP in general is a continuation of the sounds explored in 'Badinage' but with a higher emphasis on taking the time to build into something larger and staggering the climb by slowly introducing more elements into the equation. Terra

"Seabeams" is my first foray into vocals, in this instance almost like a musical instrument. Syroon’s beautiful voice is the glue holding the entire piece together, driving the direction of the track and building in dynamics alongside the beats and varied instrumentation. My vision of this track was inspired by the times me and Syroon had shared together in Margate, as reflected more in the album art than anything else depicting the beach of a place I loved and still miss dearly.

Seabeams

“Eudaimonia” is the first full track of mine to be born from the stream, all the way back in February this year where I set myself the challenge of writing a song in under an hour. Far from the complete version you’ll be hearing today, all of the elements were decided in that span and can still be heard in its infancy on Youtube. As the final icing on the cake my good friend Johnny Rac suggested the name “Eudaimonia”, a word which I think sounds beautiful but means something even more profound. Eudaimonia is a Greek term for pursuing happiness by finding meaning and purpose, a word that perfectly captures the essence of Juanstone in one. 

This track is by far the proudest of mine to date. As far as singles go, it is my deepest dive into atmospheric “ear candy” that is focused on delivering more than just the bare basic song elements. I had a lot of experimentation with reverbs and delays, using envelope filters like a painters brush strokes to create space and atmosphere that I feel like my previous tracks couldn’t quite reach. 

This is also my most accomplished mix and master yet, with huge thanks to Chris Adam for his assistance in the mixing and mastering process, this is my most accomplished production yet and I cannot wait to implement what I have learnt into the next few tracks I have due for release.
