"Turn On! Tune In! Drop Out!" show on LYL radio

For the 9th edition of Transient Landscapes, I was delighted to be joined by New Zealand-born, Melbourne-based producer, DJ Chrysalis! @djchrisellis . Chris's playful production style first jumped out to me in 2019 after hearing his EPs out on @headrushenterprise, he has since released another stomper EP on @alfatriguena, fantastically layered progressive bangers laced with nuggets of bouncy grooves.

His mixes delve deep into evocative imagery and for that reason, I couldn't imagine a better guest for a 'place'-themed show. We have assembled a 2-hour 'non-place shopping centre special' inspired by the acoustics, seasons, anonymous shoppers, and the generally transient nature of consumer spaces that, in their hollowness, reflect our own lives back at us through a labyrinth of glossy glass, tiles, and tannoys. Enormous thanks to Chris for his absolutely beautiful contribution in the 2nd hour, in his own words:

"I imagined walking a shopping centre with sound canceling headphones seeing tall walls of candy-coloured consumables; swirling seas of desperate, urgent shoppers vying for the cheapest electronics; occasionally getting stuck in a loop - physically and mentally; taking right turn after right turn, sometimes calm, sometimes alarmed, always looking for an exit"

q. pls introduce yourselves

> Salamanda is a Seoul-based Leftfield Ambient music producer/DJ duo of Uman Therma (Sala) and Yetsuby (Manda).
Salamanda believes every sound has beauty, and loves to collect and experiment with all kinds of sounds from the world around them.


q. is there a story behind the mix?

> Before working on the mix, we coincidentally saw a picture of one of our favorite artists' living room from a magazine. From the photo, the place seemed very welcoming, cozy, sophisticated and peaceful... and we wondered what it would be like to live there.
So this mix is about our fantasy of having a cup of tea in each of our dream houses on a rainy summer afternoon.


q. what's the best way enjoy your mix?

> On a lazy, a little bit gloomy late morning or early afternoon, grab a hot coffee, get your blanket, turn this mix on, and look out the window.


q. describe a favourite object in your living room...

> Sala's answer: Happy plants.
> Manda's answer: Cat tower.


q. are you working on any projects right now (music or not music)?

> In terms of our release, we had a new release that came out most recently called "Sphere," which you can check out on Métron Records bandcamp or streaming platforms such as Apple Music / iTunes, Spotify and more.
As for other interesting music-related projects, luckily we've been able to work on a series of exciting projects that we really enjoy(ed) being a part of. They will be revealed soon, so please keep your eyes peeled!
