Where Have All The Flowers Gone? is a folk song written by American singer-songwriter Pete Seeger in 1955. It was originally written as a three verse song and published in the “Sing Out!” magazine. Additional verses were added in May 1960 by Joe Hickerson. It was inducted into the Grammy Hall Of Fame in 2002 in the “folk” category.  In 2010 the New Statesman listed it as one of the “Top 20 Political Songs”.

I recorded this as an instrumental track on my first album “The Lincolnshire Poacher” back in 2012. Although I was very pleased with my interpretation of this song in instrumental form, I always had a feeling that I would want to return to it one day to re-record it with a vocal track. The simplicity of the words and the power of the message are such integral parts of the song that I always felt any version without a vocal was incomplete. I hope you like the video that accompanies this song and it helps to deliver Pete Seeger’s important message.

A lament for John Franklin who disappeared in the Arctic leading a nautical expedition to find a sea passage around the North Pole in the 1800s.   The words and tune are traditional, except for the intro-outro which is a short tune I composed called "A long drink of water". Lord Franklin

Since I first picked up a guitar at the age of 14, music has dominated my leisure time. As a teenager growing up in the 60s, I was influenced by the folk music revival in that decade as well as the renewed interest in blues music. Over the years, my love of varying musical genres has fluctuated with the various trends of each subsequent decade, but at heart, my love of the simplicity of acoustic arrangements tends to pervade. 

I am now retired and I am dedicating my remaining years to systematically recording as much of the music that I have played throughout my life as I can remember. My recorded works are put into collections to represent their relevance to me. They are presently:

“The Lincolnshire Poacher” - My earliest recordings in 2012/2013 with a collection of predominantly folk tunes that reminds me of where music playing began for me.

“Backlog” - a random collection of pieces that have become important to me over the last 50 years. Some of them are my own compositions. I anticipate that this collection will eventually be the largest as I gradually remember more and more pieces from my past playing.

“Synergy” - a range of music, both old and new, where I have collaborated with others in their creation

“Legacy” - predominantly pieces from the “classical” music world that have inspired me, and I have wanted to finally arrange in my own way.

“Taking Flight” - new pieces that are all personal compositions.

In all my recordings, the guitar tends to figure as the central instrument. In many pieces I have added other orchestral instrument sounds to enhance the arrangement. These have been created on my Roland digital piano.
