"Butterfly Highway" is a string quartet in 4 movements, commissioned in 2017 by Molly Wilkens-Reed via a Peabody Dean's Incentive Grant at the Peabody Conservatory. The purpose of the project was to create a new chamber work for intermediate-level students. Each movement features a different member of the string quartet.

The piece was inspired by an ecology project in North Carolina called the Butterfly Highway, which teaches people to create habitats that support the environments of important pollinators whose ecosystems are in danger. Each movement is named for a subspecies of butterfly that is found in the Northeast region of the United States.
