We made time… we made magic… This is what I sounded like at the Majestic Stage at Making time Festival in Philadelphia, PA during late September 2024. 

A couple days before my 30th birthday, my twenties came to an end after that weekend. This decade of my life took me from traveling across town from my college apartment in Boston to play basement raves all the way to the club and festival stages of the whole wide world. :''} I spent the weekend how I spent my 20's: DJing, dancing, smoking ouid, chatting it up and realizing just how much life and kinship my love of music has given to me. The bravery to take up space that it instilled in me is the ultimate gift. 

I planned a special mostly all vinyl set to play for this one because I owe it all to the music. I remember as soon as I could drive leaving high school on my lunch break  to  look through dusty bins at Papa Jazz records store in South Carolina.  I didn’t know what I was looking for in those dusty bins until it found me: house music, the connections of soul, jazz, RnB, and the real feeling type of music my gay and black ancestors planted seeds and reflections in for me. 

I got to play that last 20-something DJ set on maestro DJ and house music godfather, Theo Parrish’s custom rotary ISONOE mixer. 

Every DJ before him touched those knobs, but when it was my turn it became a Divinely Feminine rotation, a ritual of sound and spirit, sweeping synths and crackling of the record dust mimicking the planes flying over head, where my hands were thrown up in ecstatic motion at times, there was a synergy that could not be explained. It was a beautiful day.

I felt good about this energy work. I felt good lighting the incense. It felt good fulfilling my purpose, praise and worship, a musical acknowledgement of the source energy that flows and unites all things.

 I’m blessed to act as conduit when I’m tapped into the gift of persuasion of melodies and moods. I am charged by the power of the elements especially when I am playing in the outdoors like I was this day.

I pray many more birthdays come to find me doing what I love, what I was made to do, making a joyful noise as loud as they will let me and shining this light, my spark - this black magic woman starlight-  for all to see(and hear).

A special 2 hour show this month, all vinyl and only purchases from the last 2 weeks digging in record shops across the UK! 

I was back home for 2 weeks for a holiday on the South East coast of the UK and arrived back in Amsterdam with a 60+ new buys. This show highlights the diversity and range in record stores across the UK from reggae, dub and street soul to US disco, funk and house! A majority of these were bought in Hastings and St Leonards from Pressing Matters, Wow and Flutter and Courthouse Records - and then a couple from a day in London at Atlantis Records.

IMMI BAKES, a German-Nigerian DJ based in Stuttgart, southern Germany, has been shaping her own musical path for the past three years. Though still early in her journey, she has already brought her distinctive style to the decks in Paris, most notably at the legendary soulful club DJOON. With a wide range of musical influences from Soul and Disco to Jazz, Hip-Hop, Afrobeat, Highlife and Drum & Bass, she has found her true passion in House Music.

A passionate digger with a keen ear for grooves, IMMI is always searching for the new within the old, creating a unique listening experience. Her musical style blends soulful, groovy vibes with a generous dose of Funk and Afro rhythms. Inspired by the golden ’90s and subgenres such as Classic, Soulful & Deep House, Garage, as well as Electro Samba, Afro & Latin, she delivers a sound that promises an uplifting musical journey. The result is pure food for the soul and heart – “always baked with love,” as she likes to say.

Für die zweite Ausgabe von Constant State Of Flux haben wir uns Michael Ellis aus Freiburg eingeladen. Bevor ihr das Interview mit Ihm und seinen tollen Mix zu hören bekommt, wollen wir euch den Anfang und die Entstehung von House näherbringen. Zu unserem Gast: Michael Ellis begann seine DJ-Karriere auf kleinen, selbstorganisierten Partys in Freiburg. Er ist bekannt für alten Disco- und House-Sound aus dem Underground. Seit über fünfzehn Jahren legt er mit seinen Vinyl-Schätzen in der Region und international auf. Seine Sets sind energetisch, oft vokal, immer tanzbar und überraschen mit Raritäten aus aller Welt. Mit seiner Eventreihe Ready or Not und Formaten wie den Sunday House Dance Jams oder der Roller Disco bringt er Menschen in Bewegung und stärkt die Clubkultur vor Ort.

2023 gründete er gemeinsam mit DJ Klingberg das Projekt Brighter Days. Eine Plattform für nischige, internationale House- und Dance-Artists wie Kléo, Charlie oder Sinamin. Ihre gemeinsame Vision: Musik mit Seele, Groove und Substanz. 

Wir freuen uns sehr, dass er seine Erfahrungen mit der House und DJ Szene mit uns geteilt und uns dazu noch einen wunderschönen House Mix gezaubert hat. Gefühlvoll und echt!
