Stretched across a double LP, ‘Fünfzig’ is a full-throttle display of Brooms’ funk-laden take on a wide range of electronic-inspired music, covering house, techno, disco, dub, electro, and beyond. ‘Mover’ kicks off proceedings with swinging drums and chopped-up piano licks, moving into the hand-in-the-air, disco-inflected ‘We Gonna Dance’, featuring vocals from his daughter Ella Fleur. ‘Stark’ takes inspiration from soundsystem culture, bringing cavernous reverbs atop a monstrous bass while siren-esque leads ring throughout.

Opening the B-side, ‘Let’s Roll’ sees Broom head into full-blown techno territory, as crunching bass and fierce drums collide with a series of stabs and whistles, a theme continued in the no-nonsense steamroller ‘EFX’. ‘Dub Me Good’ closes the B-side with a heady dose of FX-drenched outboard trickery as mammoth drum hits rocket around a languid bassline.

‘Machine’ opens the second disc with fluttering synthesis and robust, dramatic drums for a pounding affair, followed by the bright and squelchy ‘Memories’ which works its way through emotive pads and crisp drums before ‘Lovers Rock’ lowers the tempo, bringing swirly atmospherics amongst machine-driven patterns. The final side of vinyl sees Broom hit the gas pedal with ‘Living For Ya’, ‘The 114’, and ‘What To Do’, delivering a raucous finalé of sample-driven, barn storming disco pumpers.

With appearances on legendary imprints such as Robert Hood’s M Plant, Warp Records, Pure Plastic, Bpitch Control, and of course Rekids, Broom is one of the UK’s foremost techno luminaries. Alongside contemporaries such as Ben Sims, Luke Slater, Surgeon, and James Ruskin, with collaborations under the Fear Ratio with the latter counted as favourites amongst fans, Broom has flown the flag for UK techno for decades. Delivering one of his most accomplished collections of work to date on ‘Fünfzig’, his return to Radio Slave’s vital Rekids imprint showing an artist whose best work is far from behind him.

“Keep Flight” is bare and punishing. Taking cues from the greats – think early Hood, Broom or Surgeon – Anfisa takes us down a relentless wormhole fortified by a pulsing vocal and EBM synth. In contrast, the flip side “Rhythm Tension” is a more slowed down, acid squelched affair where Anfisa’s vocals keep the vibe fully in check for those feel good moments everyone is currently needing in a DJ set.

Recruiting some of the most sought after acts in modern dance music, Patrick Topping pulls together a no-holds-barred collection of techno reinterpretations of his space-themed ‘Planet Session EP’ for his consistently impressive Trick imprint.

Reinier, Deborah & Rebūke are three of my favourite producers, and I’m so happy they agreed to do it and smashed them to bits!” - Patrick Topping. On Reinier Zonneveld’s remix, the Filth On Acid boss warps Topping’s vocals from ‘Planet Session’ into a pounding track complete with ravey stabs and grinding low-end. Sola_mente Records founder Deborah De Luca flips ‘Quick To The Mothership’ into a trippy, late-night techno cut, before Drumcode, Hot Creations, and We Are The Brave affiliate Rebūke rounds out the release with a sharp, jacking take on Topping’s ‘Lift Off’.

Joining the WCF imprint with his ‘Distorted Time EP’, the Manchester based Transcode brings his driving sound to Egg LDN’s in-house label to showcase his versatile approach to production.

With the vinyl press being released at the beginning of November, followed by the digital version, which includes the bonus track ‘Backlash’, due out on 14th December, the EP includes two remixes by the club’s close friends Secret Cinema and OC & Verde.

Manchester based OC & Verde bring their stamp to the release with their remix of ‘Rotation’. Using a blend of drawn-out synths to build up a powerful lead, packed with raw percussions, it certainly shows the sonic direction the duo has been working on over the last year.

Drumcode mainstay Bart Skils links up with emerging DJ/producer Weska for a maiden collaboration.

The duo first met in 2013 when Bart played Toronto’s iconic Coda, where Weska was a regular. In friendship and in music, they clicked effortlessly. Since then, the Dutchman has become one of DC’s most vital contributors, releasing a consistent stream of standout productions on the label, highlighted by the now-classic ‘Your Mind’ with Adam Beyer. Meanwhile the rhythmic power of Weska’s productions caught the ear of Beyer who gave the young Canadian his debut on the imprint with ‘Other Places’ when ‘A-Sides Vol.7’ dropped last summer.

When Weska migrated to Berlin a plan was hatched to collaborate, with the pair swapping ideas back and forth, before linking up in Amsterdam to finish the work. The propulsive ‘Polarize’ EP is the result, a pair of cuts that have highlighted Beyer’s gigs at Department Festival in Stockholm, Junction 2 and his behemoth B2B with Cirez D at EDC Vegas. The title cut packs a punch with rugged basslines and pin-sharp percussion, while stabs of melody dip in and out with euphoric effect. ‘Lost On You’ is a heady trip into the abyss with a sinister vocal line and powerful climax.
