Joep Mencke is a producer based in the Netherlands. Through his Dj-sets, breath-work, and, recently, his new live-set, he uses his music to facilitate an inward journey. Through musical storytelling he aims to provide a vehicle for exploration and transformation. His music, which is heavily inspired by nature and the immensely diverse cultures on this planet, can be characterized as: compelling, deep, and melodious. Melancholic chord progressions, hypnotizing bass-lines, and driving drums will accompany you on your journey.

Midnight Community #39 w/ Joep Mencke - 26.03.21

Deep Ghosh recently moved to Amsterdam to start a new professional chapter his space engineering life (working at the European Space Agency and looking after environmental monitoring missions), but over the last couple of years has been working on his newly coined role as a 'rave engineer' (or as he jokingly refers to it as the '5 to 9'). Deep is one of the curators of the Flow Sessions long-format 3:33hr mix series, co-creator and organizer UTOPIA Festival, veteran burner (Burning Man, AfrikaBurn, KiezBurn) and active in the Berlin and Amsterdam Burner communities. In between all this, he also enjoys DJing occasionally (on land and sea)

"I am happy to say I was able to finally take a moment and breathe, and make a little 2-hour story of some of the music that I got to discover and share over the last 6 months: starting with dismal winter lockdown and curfew in Amsterdam, to surviving in sweaty office kitchens, secret speakeasies and finally freedom under the blue skies, skirting the turquoise waters of the Red Sea teeming with life, and the Martianesque mountains of the Sinai Peninsula. The last 3 months I got to spend returning to Egypt multiple times was the truly reinvigorating and creatively recharging gift of 2021, as I returned to take on a dystopian castle adventure with my friends at UTOPIA, and help bring our culture back to doing what it does best: spreading joy and love through music, dance, and community. So much more awaits!

For me, music has always served as an audible journal entry, an irreplaceable bookmark on a moment and experience, and an instant memory trigger. This particular journey is a deeply personal one, and emotes where I have been lately (introspectively and otherwise): personally, mentally, emotionally, and a musical nod to some of the incredibly talented humans I recently connected with on my travels to Egypt. I hope you enjoy this peak into my diary before we reunite on the dancefloor soon and write some more chapters together (be it on a boat, in the mountains, a magical castle, or a DTLA rooftop). "

Deep Ghosh [Flow Music] - Mix #107

This mix is my freedom mix, a mix where I touch certain styles between my spectrum of dance music. You can find many moods in it. Also there is some unreleased music from my own label Quetame and some other projects I did (or still working on). 

Also a side note; as I just finished this mix, my first gig after almost 1,5 year awaits me. I will see and touch real life dancing people again, the thought of it makes me happy :)

I'm happy to announce that I'm starting my own platform "Amanecer". I felt I wanted to put my own vision and feelings into something new.

"Amanecer" means "dawn" in english. I love the dawn of the day a lot. I am also a morning person as I discovered thru the years. Everything is fresh and new and I'm always full of energy on the beginning of the day :)
The dawn has also a special place in my memory. Because as a child I played soccer and it reminds me of those years when I played on a saturday morning and you could smell the fresh cut grass :)

I always found it challenging to record a studio podcast: my analytical mind is trying to calculate every move, evaluate each transition & criticize the selection. I have time, music & equipment at my disposal, but one key element is missing to really tell a story: humans.
____

I encountered that problem last weekend. Although I was playing music I enjoy, I felt that my technically structured mix was too stiff and impersonal. 

____

Then, some of my favourite humans turned up at the studio. As Ashley, Apolline, Axel & Robin entered the room, the studio was suddenly filled with a great energy & I felt like pressing the rec button again, just for fun - this is when the first minutes of  S y m b i o s e  were captured. 
____

I feel this studio mix is an authentic representation of the energy levels I like to navigate through during a longer set. It features some of my favourite tracks in a nod to the past but also has a touch of the future; new sounds that are moving me forward & some of my new compositions. 
____

I’m happy to share this mix as I’m taking off for Argentina, what marks my first adventure of the decade. This music session brought me clarity, presence & joy! I hope you'll resonate with it.
