Dreamweaving DJ Mix

An absolute master groove-musher, British legend Ray Mang (Mangled, DFA, R&S, Toy Tonics, Eskimo... etc.) harnesses the power of the Italo-disco gods to weave a romantically jacking revamp; bridging the gap betwixt straight up electro heat and brass-laden funk from outer-space. Intrinsically tailored for the dancers’ pleasure, this one’s bound to bring crowds to a steady simmer, just as is true with every Mang- led piece of work.

Perel (DFA, Dischi Autunno, Uncanny Valley) is muscling in with a hi-velocity revamp, clearly tuned to make heavy damage on the dancefloor. Taking the original in a whole new, 100% club-oriented direction as well, Perel’s version fast-forwards us in an endless corridor of arpeggiated frenzy and lusciously synth-splattered firepower. Bespoke, pumped-up weaponry fully geared for peak-time action.

Final remix comes from Elninodiablo himself, who gives way to the fevered appeal of percussive drums, Venusian disco and powerhouse bass from hell. The result is a no-nonsense DJ asset, boiling up to a hectic momentum of restless robotic flute lines and filtered keyboard volutes painting the background all kinds of vivid summery colours. One to get the tiles of the roof flying off sharp and clean.

Fruit of a lockdown brainstorm between music producer / floor agitator Elninodiablo and visual whiz / dancer and DJ Adam Munnings, Lunchbox Candy is a tentacular hub and space where the finest of Berlin’s creative community gathers to give full vent to its all-embracing fantasies. 

A safe, queer sex-positive space, LBC was designed as a gesture of gratitude towards the people who have made our past, present and future creative ventures possible, and aims at weaving our beloved souls together in one weightless, prejudice-free carnival of sorts where your inner drag and exuberant self can fully and unstintingly assert themselves in the friendliest and most intimate environment. Our next party on Sunday Nov 28th features an array of artists who share the very same DNA and love for lively, genre-unbound partying.

With a carefully staged atmosphere, music policy and set design,  the bi-monthly party operates as a catalyser for all the energies and talents gravitating around our nightlife universe, spanning all fields from music to film, via conceptual narrative, fashion, photography, styling, movement, art, dance, sexuality, spirituality, radical self-expression, love and joy and it' all about creating that essential connection.

Then there’s “Let’s Get Sleazy”, subject to two equally dancefloor efficient and oddball revamps. All arpeggios blazing, legendary NYC-based duo Each Other (Justin Strauss and Max Pask) deliver a dynamic roller packed with feelgood vibes and kosmische-infused gusto that’ll have you odyssey-ing your way into the greater void with panache.

More experimental by nature another UK legend, The Emperor Machine (Chicken Lips, Bizarre Inc, Sir Drew etc) delivers a full-on anaolgue all steel and circuits rework that could well be summarised as robot brothel soundtrack, and boy, has it got serious oily, bolty, greasy sex-appeal to it. Time to get down to it.

‘Illusion’ is a two-in-one prog weapon aimed at having the dancers wading knee-deep in their own sweat on the face of it - take a muscular bass and sprinkle it with flocks of mischievous darbukkahs, arpeggiated chords and rattling drums - then comes the wildest U- turn you could expect, sure tailored to stir the bottom of your soul and leave your poor heart ransacked... but hey, don’t take anything for granted, back is the bass and lord, does it spank. A lesson in the mastery of sudden programming shifts and shaping of uniquely vivid momentums and narrative arcs, the mirage- like ‘Illusion’ shows off Elninodiablo’s sleight of hand when it comes to creating complex genre-unbound slices of music that bring together the widest array of emotions through single wide-spanning sonic vistas.

Sweeping a broad spectrum of emotions, the eight minute-odd ‘Anastasia’ gets the ball rolling on a typically slo-evolving note, just as rich textures and ambience wise, hatching out around its half into a no- frills dancefloor burner - think Nordic minimalism here - whilst preserving Elninodiablo’s trademark touch of rhythmic playfulness and clinical execution intact. With its chaud-froid of sensually phlegmatic vocal lines featuring once again Doroteja (Dorothea’s Rainbow), FX-laden synth-smithery and bassy impact, this one’s an invitation to hold your breath, close your eyes and dance your life away.

Newest in the release series is the smouldering hot centre-piece from the ’ShadowPlay EP‘, ’Shadow Dancer’, complemented by a choice pair of remixes courtesy of DFA mainstay Perel and former Faithless member, Queen Sudhara.

Presented in a slightly tightened, floor-optimised version tailored to enslave ravers through hypnotic loops and twists, the lead cut, Club Edit blazes a path of utter rhythmic devotion throughout, sure to leave wisps of vapour in its trail.

Having released her anticipated debut album ‘Hermetica' on DFA two years ago, plus an array of contributions to the well-furnished catalogues of Jennifer Cardini’s Correspondant, Permanent Vacation and Dresden’s Uncanny Valley, Berlin-based talent Perel - real name Annegret Perel Fiedler - clocks in with a magnetic comber of a rework, all arpeggiators blazing. Clearing the opaque, late- night haze enshrouding Elninodiablo’s original, Perel eases us in a distinctly luminous sonic realm where synths reign supreme - flaring, bouncing and swelling in endless tides as the groove revs up towards upper spheres of consciousness.

Previously known as the percussive heartbeat of electronic band Faithless, with whom she’s acquired a noteworthy reputation as a master of the drums, Sudha Kheterpal - alias Queen Sudhara - pulls out a mystique-imbued workout of a revamp, welding the finest of sturdily bassy house and Parrish-esque techno tropes with ayahuasca-induced visions that shall awaken your senses to new forms of holistic vibrancy and soul-to-soul communion.

Here we present Elninodiablo’s take on '7minutes in Heaven, You Should Go‘ – transforming the original into a transcendent trip sparkled with live shamanic percussion and electromagnetic dissonance. 
The drums were derived from field recordings inside the Funkhaus and the other-wordly pads are juxtaposed with a fat analogue arpegiatted bassline that drives the groove into the upper spheres of consciousness.
