a-rot (Angelica Rottingdam White) is an interdisciplinary artist working in new media, sculpture, sound, and installation. Their convergence of mediums serves as a tangible and engaging dialogue on the intersectionality of queerness, horror, and fetish culture.
This mix is one of a-rot’s many décollages, a process of overloading their DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) with media, then distorting and randomizing all sources of audio so nothing leaves the same as it was imported. The mix isn&amp#39;t just enveloped in the lossy ambience of early-internet horror soundtracks; the tracks also possess a unique spatial awareness and a keen focus on sound design. This combination creates an intensely vivid and cinematic experience, both structurally and visually.
Sound should not be segregated into what is appropriate for the club or not, a-rot finds, and provides concrete evidence as to why such sounds can float between danceable and reserved “strict listening spaces&ampquot;.
