Dear Friends,

We all know the terrible situation in Ukraine right now. People are losing their homes and innocent civilians are getting murdered. And all of this originates from conflicts of power the ordinary civilian is unaware of and cannot influence.  

The situation hits me so much that I had to do something about it. I Have become an artist to raise my voice and create awareness to address topics that come close to my heart and the Russian-Ukrainian war is such a topic. 

Since this is not the only terrible war in the world right now I wanted to create something with a broader perspective. I found a speech by Eugene V. Debs that got him jailed for 10 years. It summarizes perfectly what I think we all should be more aware of. 

I also want to address that we should be careful in depicting all Russians for a war most of them do not want. As Debs states so beautifully: “No war by any nation in any age has ever been declared by the people”.  
All the revenues proceeding from this record will be donated to Amnesty International which fights for the protection of human rights and is helping to fight war crimes in the Russian-Ukrainian war.

Rose Ringed returns with an anthemic EP on his imprint Closed Eyes Recordings. The Amsterdam DJ/producer creates upbeat, fast, compulsively danceable tracks, which yet explore huge questions of belief, truth, and personal faith. The three tracks of ‘In Search for Truth’ had their genesis in chord progressions, and travel from those to huge synth lead sounds and high energy rhythms. No wonder his music industry support and his streaming figures are equally stratospheric. 

God’s Power launches into speedy staccato synths and hi-hats like a divine Morse code for euphoric dance, until the pure, male-strong choir creates a gothic breakdown, with Carl Jung pronouncing on faith – ‘I don’t need to believe; I know’. Choir and cathedral-powered organ join the dance to the end of a thrilling ride. ‘We don’t know what the truth is but we know there is truth out there.’ 

In Your Eyes is ‘about the endlessly beautiful role our eyes have in forming some sort of truth in our brains, creating our beliefs.’ It’s also about a no-holds-barred 132bpm beat, trancey woozy synths, and a sweeter, higher choir creating a joyous melange, now full-on rave, now thoughtful as Rose Ringed uses the breakdowns with signature skill.

Giving has an even faster feel, building both euphoria and tension as the frantic synth tries to break through all limits, jittering through the breakdown behind a melody (musos, take note) in the Phrygian aka ‘Spanish’ scale before letting rip to the end, evoking ‘an emotion of something hopeful and beautiful yet dark and unresolved. In a personal situation, I experienced the joy of giving, it’s beautiful how it makes you happier than the self-centredness the world focuses on.’

Rose is back with a new single on his imprint Closed Eyes Recordings. This time capturing the soul of the recently closed nightclub: “The Marktkantine” in Amsterdam. The track is a combination of the typical electronic characteristics the club became famous for; it has the disco-ish/Italo vibe, as well as a deep electronic trance-influenced beat and breakdown. Hands in the air are guaranteed with this one.

Amsterdam DJ/multi-instrumentalist Rose Ringed returns with three tracker ‘For Us’ EP. 

The Dutch producer enlists both analogue and digital sounds, multiple synths and choral vocal notes, and diverse genres – melodic techno, house, euphoria, synthpop – in his quest to bring joy to blissed-out clubbers and listeners. Recent releases have explored major questions of spirituality and truth. ‘For Us’ tells a more romantic love story, still high energy and uplifting, but with a darker edge.  

‘I gravitate between an external perspective of concepts that fascinate me, and an internal perspective mostly about deep inner emotions,’ says Rose Ringed. Here, he plays creatively with breakdowns too: long solo, or a sudden silence, or a breakdown building into another… 

Fight For Love; dreamy synth chords behind fast, bounding bass and drums, build to the sustained breakdown with its choral notes and chiming arps like falling snow, the breathy, resonant melody entrances as the organ adds gravitas auguring the drop, before all elements unite in a high energy finale. ‘The most personal track I’ve ever put out,’ says Ringed. ‘This and ‘WLYG’ reflect times I had to fight for very significant loved ones.’

Nights Without; powerfully fast but darker, more urgent sound patterns, growling bassline, a plangent melody, and after the breakdown, bags of bass, jittery percussion, a sudden breathing space of silence, before the wild ride to the finish. ‘I wanted this track to be “cold” in the beat and very “warm” on the breaks. Like the beat parts are the nights without “her” and the breaks are “with her”.’

Won’t Let You Go features a strong, fast, staccato synth melody constantly hooking the listener yet varying, over a deep, deep humming bass, with a sort of double breakdown. Simultaneously danceable and listenable. ‘When I first played this, at De Zon festival, I was so amazed by the reaction. The breakdown features field recordings I made on the beach in Kenya with my dad.’

Lust For Wrong is the debut release for Vinny Villbass on Eskimo Recordings. This haunting house cut features the vocal funk from the renowned Ost (from diynamic duo Ost&Kjex) and comes with a Finnebassen remix.

For 15 years, Vinny Villbass has been one of the main influences on the Norwegian club scene, with a musical focus on percussive and disco-oriented house music. In addition to having a master degree in acoustics, Håkon "Villbass" Vinnogg has been recommending music on Norwegian national radio and functioned as one of the hosts of the legendary Sunkissed nights in Oslo. He has been Diskjokke´s dj-partner since the end of the 90’s and has played guitar and synth in the DiskjokkeBand. He is also one of two curators behind the much hyped contemporary stage project Pantha Du Prince & The Bell Laboratory. Vinny Villbass is currently running the Norwegian web-portal OsloClubCast where he is building ties between the clubs, djs, and producers of Oslo.

In august I've been traveling around Indonesië for a month, armed with a Zoom H1 recorder I sampled a lot of sounds in the sumatran jungle in which we hiked for 2 nights and three days. 

Back at home I've been working on the sounds to re-create the feeling of jungle dreams, enjoy the result.
