On February 25th, Palms Out will release the first in a series of compilations on cassette and digital. Titled plainly: "End Broken Windows", 100% of the proceeds of the series will go to charity in an effort to raise awareness about broken windows policing methods. Specifically, I hope this project contributes in some small way to spreading the word about the ways in which policing and prosecuting low-level offenses serves only as a way of terrorizing and traumatizing vulnerable populations, without achieving the intended goal of preventing violent crime. The theoretical premise of broken windows policing is fundamentally flawed, and woefully misguided -- there is no evidence that focusing police power on low level violations like sex work, loitering, minor vandalism, petit theft, minor drug offenses, etc. leads to any reduction in violent crime. The practice must end.

Each volume of the series will benefit a different charity doing work to counteract the effects of broken windows policing; all it really does is criminalize being black, trans, queer, young, unhoused, etc. The first volume will benefit the SBB National Sex Worker Bail Fund (swopbehindbars.org/donate). Sex workers are often intersectionally and inordinately affected by broken windows policing, and should never be forced to spend a single night in jail merely for exercising agency over their own bodies.

Musically and conceptually, this record is inspired by a place where broken windows policing is disproportionately felt: the subway/metro. I gave all of the artists the vague prompt to write music inspired by the NYC subway system -- and the results were expectedly varying. For this volume, I pursued artists who have been generally exploring midtempo dance music without focus on 4 to the floor drum patterns. The result was a collection of largely breakbeat-oriented songs, some with direct classic NYC & Detroit electro references, others with more melodic and euphoric UK hardcore inspiration, and others still that kind of split the difference between modern bass and Baltimore club (for lack of better descriptors).

Next in the spotlight of our mix series is We Rob Rave. They have put together this stonker of a mix, ahead of playing our next night on the 25th November. 

"We Rob Rave" is a project of PZG & Dubsknit - two Polish producers, well-known for jumping through genres such as jungle, drum'n'bass, dubstep and footwork. 

After more than 10 years working together, they decided to focus on mixing old-school rave samples, classic melodic pianos, futuristic sound of footwork, amen breaks broken in all possible ways and juicy, overdriven bass. 

As of 2014, PZG & Dubsknit release more Albums and EPs filled with all the best of the 90's, battered with eclectic styles of electronic music.

I made this track over the course of one day in October. Initially, just like "INTRUDER", it was my homework for music theory class, where this time I was tasked to make a song with a sonata structure. I unfortunately got too carried away with the assignment due to how much I liked what I was making and made the actual song structure unclear because of that lmao. But that's oooookay, because the finished result is one of my favourite things I have made recently and the process of making it was probably the most fun and manic dopamine ride I had with making music this year :>. The cover art was made by me literally just giving Ippy the track and them drawing whatever they imagined when listening to it haha, I think it came out beautifully and really put this piece in a new light for me! It is like an imaginary milestone for me! After longer time I feel like I'm actively moving forward and getting along w/ more things more effectively. I can feel it in my music as well as in every aspect of my life. When I heard it in it's first version before two years ago I felt it instantaneously.. I'm Growing Up! I'm becoming more whom I always wanted to be! Ofc growth isn't always about positive energy and instant progress. Sometimes it can be overwhelmingly fierce and nasty but at the end it's worth every penny. Just like my track! I've always had particular feeling that this track would mean a lot to me and it does now. It feels soo good to grow!

Ondrej Obst a.k.a Elýščítat is transcending between many genres such as Bass Music, Trip Hop, Avantgarde Electronic, Post Dubstep, IDM and many more. His fusions are ever-changing weave of emotions with lot of storytelling and quite a punch. 

It is mainly eclectic electronic music, however, he would prefer much more, if there could be one more new genre to the horde: Elýščítat-Core.
