After releasing their debut album ‘Crooks and Lovers’ last summer to huge critical acclaim and racking up numerous end of year lists including the shortlist for Guardian’s First Album Award, plus sell out tours in North America, Australia and Europe, London duo Mount Kimbie announce the news of their next EP ‘Carbonated’.
This EP follows the release of the ‘Blind Night Errand’ EP and will be the final release from the album. ‘Carbonated’, the lead track on the EP is joined by two previously unreleased tracks, the buoyant, effervescence of ‘Flux’ and ‘Bave’s Chords’, which showcase the lush, elegant percussive sound Mount Kimbie have become known for. ‘Bave’s Chords’ was recorded around their early EP ‘Maybes’ and ‘Flux’ was created during the album recordings. Airhead, who’s shortly releasing his own album on Brainmath and is member of James Blakes' live band, subtly twists ‘Carbonated’ with his remix, while Belgian producer &amp; DJ Peter Van Hoesen creates a six minute dark techno rework for the dancefloor. ‘Adriatic’, also from ‘Crooks and Lovers’ is transformed completely by Klaus with his style of detailed production hitting the mark once more. ‘Crooks and Lovers’ defined Dominic Maker and Kai Campos as an original and exceptional duo whose musical output refuses to be pigeonholed. Abundant in paradoxes, the album floats through dubstep and hip-hop, jazz, techno, post-rock, UK garage, shoegaze, indie and film scores to startling effect.

Stuart Howard aka Lapalux has come up with something special for his first release with Cali’s finest, Brainfeeder. Having made his name with his cassette-only “Many Faces Out Of Focus” and acclaimed bootlegs and remixes he returns with a seven track EP of such poise and beauty, one listen is enough to know you’re onto something special.

Lapalux bathes your brain in lush textures, surprising and explosive atmospheres set in unencountered, unearthly spaces, all somehow perfectly set against catchy rolling choruses informed by pop and commercial R&B. On the “When You’re Gone” EP he channels and refines his sound and shapes it into hazy, woozy emotion. Whether working with a singer like Py (on “Moments”), or deconstructing found samples and his own voice, Howard stretches, bends and warps sound to make soul – not plastic posturing but real emotion made of synthetic sound.

Up next on Scuba's Hotflush Recordings is the stunning debut EP Forever For Now from 20 year-old duo Shelter Point.  Through the use of field recordings, upright pianos, their own chopped and screwed vocals and a varied palette of synths, the pair have created a lush and elegant four track love letter that’s bound to make their contemporaries stand up and take note. 

‘Braille' sets the scene, its wistful, haunting vocals delicately slinking along to emotive and complex analogue synths, only slightly changing course on the vibrating and discordant 80’s inspired 'Hold On Me'. On the flip is the title track, a compelling and experimental piano ballad, rich with vinyl crackle and a bittersweet lyrical flow (‘forever burned your picture in my mind’) followed by the pop-inspired 'Sleep Easy', a sweetly composed bedroom soul production kitted out with filtered synths and dubbed out atmospherics. 

A unique and memorable debut from a very bright new talent, Shelter Point are here to stay.
