While the blossoming trees are changing our sceneries, we’re diving deeper into the hypnotic side of electronic music. For this occasion we have the pleasure to enjoy the sound of Rambadu, an artist who knows exactly how to translate the organic feeling of nature through music.

With a blend of various acoustic instruments, hardware devices and field recordings, Rambadu manages to create a sensual dance, that takes you further into the sonic realms. Almost two years ago he started his own label that celebrates the universal connection between beings and their surroundings. Since then he has been brewing on some exciting projects that will unveil themselves in the coming months.

A few weeks ago we had the pleasure to invite Rambadu for our stream at Operator. The recording of his mix is now part of our SALON series to make sure you can relive it whenever you want.

For the next episode of our series we’ve invited the Russian artist Mary Yuzovskaya who is currently residing in Berlin. Mary has been cultivating her approach to electronic music for over 13 years already, and in that time she has proven herself to be a worthy vinyl-only DJ and producer. Since the year 2017 she is also running her own label Monday Off where she curates and presses work from artists that explore the trippier, more hypnotic side of Techno. 

For her contribution to SALON she recorded a vinyl-only mix and shared with us what drives her as an artist:

‘The most exciting thing about DJing, producing and running a label is a unique opportunity to create and shape your own world and let others experience it. In my sets I share some of the records that bring me joy and make me feel things in this particular time frame. If these tracks resonate with the listener I find my mission accomplished.'

As summer is coming to an end, we are preparing for the darker months in which we thrive well. For this occasion we have the pleasure to welcome Polish artist Blazej Malinowski, a respected DJ, producer, and live performer in the deep realm of ambient and hypnotic techno who has made a name for himself over the last couple of years. His signature - bassline orientated - sound has given him the chance to release his music on labels such as Semantica, The Gods Planet, Silent Season, and his own label Inner Tension which he launched earlier this year. Blazej contribution doesn’t stop there, as he is also the founder of Why So Silent? a series of events where artists and listeners can experience experimental and ambient orientated music.

In this mix, Blazej goes all out and shows a harder side of his artistic self, where the driving low end is accompanied by mind-bending sound design. The perfect combination to get lost and wander yourself in the place we all love.

With the 42th episode we finalise the seventh series of SALON. To close this series in style we’ve invited the South-Korean artist Cobahn who recently relocated to the Netherlands. With her deep and ritualistic sound Cobahn manages to guide her listeners in a meditative state of mind. With this ability it’s no surprise that she has been strongly associated with Vurt where she shared the line ups with many other amazing artists.

We asked Cobahn what she wants to translate with this mix, about she had the following to say:

“When I'm working on music, I like to set a certain atmosphere or story for each project. In this mix, I tried to capture a mental journey that explores the subconscious that is happening deep inside my mind. With sounds that inspired me recently I aimed for a soundscape of chaos, distortion, transformation, and various abstract emotions intertwined in darkness and light.”

We have no doubt that the closing of our upcoming event is in good hands with a versatile artist like Biri behind the decks. This trust is much deserved as he has crafted his skill to seamlessly morph between different moods and energies for more than 10 years. Both as a DJ and producer his efforts didn’t go unnoticed which has resulted in impressive achievements so far. Nevertheless, we have the pleasure to welcome him for his first appearance in the Netherlands under his solo project, so it is certain he will make it one to remember.

ABSIS, also known as Salva Coromina, has been a regular DJ in the Barcelona scene since the late 90’s under a different alias: MouseDown/MouseUp. He was a resident DJ at The Loft and a regular at Sónar, both in Barcelona, for many years. ABSIS has always been exploring the deepest side of electronic music which varies between ambient and techno. Next to DJ’ing he is also a producer and you are able to find some of his productions on Hivern Discs and Oslated. 

This set by ABSIS is a recording of almost 5 hours where he takes you on a fulfilling journey. He took a deep dive into his electronic library to create something special. From a young age, Yuka has been intrigued by music's power to control and create emotions. She now uses this power to control the mind and bodies of her listeners. Yuka seeks to take this control through different sounds with her DJ sets and her productions. She released on respected labels like Semantica, Edit Select, and Kabalion but it all started with Dasha Rush's label Fullpanda where she became a resident producer.

Alexskyspirit, born and raised in Patras, represents the Greek techno scene. You can hear several elements in Alex's signature sound: Hypnotic ambient atmospheres and distorted textures. Joachim has been active since the nineties, when he started as a producer with releases on the Cologne-based Kompakt. Back then, he already showed signs of his modern-day deep and atmospheric sound, but this came to light from 2007. That year, Joachim founded his label Affin. Today, Affin's main focus is on hypnotic techno and ambient.

As we slowly ease out of the warmer summer days, we are delighted to welcome Noah Lyas to the Embodiment podcast series. With more than 15 years of experience in making music and as co-founder of Profundo Collective, he has carved out a space for deep, hypnotic explorations that move masterfully between nuance and vigor.

Noah Lyas reflects on the recording process with striking authenticity:

“During the summer, it gets so hot in my attic studio that making music is almost impossible. Even in the evening, with the windows open, it’s hard to stay focused and attentive while composing; only warm, heavy ambient pads come into being, with crickets providing the rhythm.

This mix was recorded just after all those hot days, when the temperature was finally low enough to dance in the attic again, and to feel what it’s like to be active. It begins calmly, flowing slowly, until the first low notes become possible after which it spills over into rhythmic steps. Just like the transition from those sweltering summer evenings to the creation of this set.”

A fluid journey that rises gently from ambient depth to grounded rhythmic flow, echoing the passage from heat-induced stillness into motion, presence, and dance.

Today's podcast means more to us than just inviting an artist. It represents a connection and the mutual respect between two organizations and the people around it. This episode is delivered by a resident of the infamous Orphic crew: Tromp.

Over the years, Tromp has managed to develop his own sound. His balanced record choice in combination with smooth and layered transitions are the most characteristic of this. In addition, he manages to maintain control which causes a very strong and round dynamic. His passion, for both being a DJ and a huge lover of the dance floor, is truly remarkable and can be heard in SALON 004.

As an organisation we have a deep connection with the people of Orphic. Besides the fact that we help and support each other as an organisation, we’re also part of their beautiful community. The way they manage to translate their character and vision to the dance floor is pure magic and amazes us every time. Every rave of theirs has its own but very sincere vibe.

Temudo, a member of the HAYES Collective, is no longer a stranger to the scene. With several releases on labels such as Soma Records, Clergy, Planet Rhythm, and Synewave New York, he contributes to shaping the musical image of the contemporary techno sound.

He provided us with the tenth episode of EMBDMNT SALON, which he accompanied with these inspiring words:

"For me, one of the most beautiful elements in this kind of music is the dissonance, and that is something I really care about when selecting tracks. When mixing these tracks I try to be careful about building the puzzle so all the melodies and the low end of each track blend in a musical way (even a dissonant melody needs a proper context to blend properly). In addition, I try to keep a hypnotic environment, adding several layers but trying to be as subtle as I can."

“One could experience being confronted with unknown territory” - IGNOTA

For our next podcast, we’ve invited the Amsterdam based IGNOTA. He represents ‘The Unknowable’, which defines his characteristic sound. As an artist he surrenders himself to unexplored emotions, by which he aims to invite you into a dark and obscure place. Here you will lose yourself at first, to then discover yourself again in another dimension. The opening lifts off with dramatic layers, blending ambient sounds with seductive patterns. The raw shamanic story will provoke your emotions and leads to an intimate ritual that can feel hypnotic and builds up to an intertwined release.

Make sure to keep an eye on IGNOTA’s recently launched record label @TERRITORIA-RECORDS as he will release his debut album in the near future.

Embodiment 012 - IGNOTA

Hitam, a name dedicated to his roots and also the highest possible way to experience music in combination with dance. As a resident of Eerste Communie and a lover of the dance floor, he began his musical journey under the name Optics. Under this alias, he released several EP’s on labels such as Dynamic Reflection and KSR. Just before the summer he decided to change his artist name to Hitam and pursue an image that is closer to him as a person. He has now planned no less than 3 releases for the month of November. You can expect a solo EP on Secession, a collaboration with Temudo on Immaterial Archives and a split EP with Yant on the fast-growing label Platform 22.

All of this brings us to his neat podcast for SALON. He starts by showing a deep and aggressive side of himself with technical highlights, after which he chooses to give the listener a breather with a somewhat warmer, rounder and more organic sound. This versatility says a lot about him as an artist and is the perfect way to kick-off the last series of 2020.
