The Day You Walked Away

Undone is my first release for the Embers project.  It was recorded and mixed in my home studio.  I wrote the song many years ago; at the time it described someone I knew who realized they weren't being true to themselves, nor to the person they were with.  After many years, the song more generally represents moments I believe we all feel from time to time when we long for being free of all obligations, even if just momentarily.

Beautiful World is Embers' third official release. This guitar-driven rock song is a departure from the tone and energy of the prior two Embers releases, allowing me to showcase another side of my songwriting, playing and production.

Pervasive cynicism has somehow become the new cool for many. This song looks through the lens of someone struggling to reconcile their jaded feelings and anger with the emptiness this creates in them, and with their true desire to connect with others. There is still great beauty in others and in our world, even in these rather fucked up times.

Unholy looks at the the struggle to maintain our individual identities and direction in the midst of the chaos today's world can bring.  We are bombarded with information and content, much of which is negative and polarizing.  Many feel even more isolated and lost.  I believe we have to wrestle our own demons in order to bring our best selves into the mix.

I'm very excited to release this collaboration with my long-time friend Rob Zion.  Rob and I dusted off a song from the vault and re-worked it.  He supplied the bass and lead vocals, and it was a blast to work together again across the miles.

I'm excited to share Ghost, the newest collaboration between Embers and HeartBeatHero (https://soundcloud.com/heartbeathero)! The instrumental version was recently released by HeartBeatHero.  As soon as I heard it, I loved it and thought a version with vocals could be very cool.  HeartBeatHero was all for it, and so I wrote the lyrics and melody, recorded the vocals and guitars and re-mixed it.  We are both really happy with the result, and hope you enjoy the moody, haunting goodness of Ghost!

Omega Man was first inspired by the amazing Omega Granophyre amp software by Neural DSP.  I wrote the main riff as soon as I plugged in and fired it up.  Then I got to know the campy 70's sci fi thriller movie of the same name.  The song is about the themes in that movie (which was later remade as I Am Legend).  This is definitely the heaviest-sounding Embers track to date.  Enjoy!

Omega Man

You Sing is a pop-rock ballad with Trap elements blended in.  A spacious, moody start builds into the heavy, guitar-driven chorus.  The song is about comparing our own art to others that we admire. This can be inspiring, but also daunting and frustrating.  Ultimately we have to do our own thing and put our souls into it!
