It’s 2018.  I’m selectively semi-retired but I go back to the essence.  Born and raised in the era of Hip-Hip when it was Hip-Hop.  Black music has always had a generational divide.  Your gospel grandparents looked at your parents’ music of Rhythm & Blues as something of the Devil’s music.  It wasn’t wholesome.  Your parents listened to our music as it being “not real music.”  That HippetyHop crap.  The Disco junk.  Gang music.  “You’re just stealing our old music.”  Those of us 40+..45+ years of age…look at today’s music with disdain.  Me as a DJ..I look at fellow current young DJs with disdain.  Y’all from the mp3 and controller era.  We lost our fabric.  There’s no respect for the foundation.  Therefore I felt the need to set the tone as a DJ who came from 45s and 33s.  From Red Alert, Chuck Chillout, Mr. Magic (R.I.P.) and Marley Marl and the Supreme Team and P-Fine and Sway & Tech who set the tone esthetically.  To DJs today who I love and respect who are holding true to the creative culture.  I talk that talk.  I walk that walk.  I’m competitive and open to learn from who have the ability to make me learn.  Push me…because I’ll push you.

All that being said, here we have the Best of Native Tongues, presented by me..DaManDL..live from the Boogie Down Bronx.  If you know me, I’m not just a DJ, I don’t just play songs…I’m an Edutainer.  I’m a crate digger.  I educate while entertaining.  I do research, I pay homage.  I DJ by ear, not by playlist.  I understand keys and tones, not just BPMs.  I don’t clean up mistakes, I leave them and publish as-is.  

There’s a disgusting divide between our era of music and the current wave of Hip-Hop.  They have no respect for what we laid down.  They don’t know.  If we don’t edutain them, they’ll never know. So as we go from 1987 to about 1995 on this particular mix, I need and want you to enjoy and learn from the journey.
