Emerald City, the newest label venture from Jamie Jones and Lee Foss delivers a majestic second release with a new collaboration between Jamie Jones himself, DJ/composer Kate Simko & London Electronic Orchestra featuring the vocals of Jem Cooke. 

Kate Simko launched her London Electronic Orchestra project in 2014 and have since sold out concerts at the Britten Theatre, National Gallery, and opened the iTunes Festival 2014. Featuring live instrumentation from harp, violins, cellos, and upright bass, they create intimate atmospherics and indelible frequencies in ‘One Time Game’, a beautiful classic that is paired with a raw 909 club mix. Kate Simko and Jem Cooke first teamed up for their hit song ‘Go On Then’ that topped the charts in house music in 2012, and subsequently released tracks on Get Physical and No. 19.  Jamie invited Kate to play at his Boiler Room in Ibiza last summer, where ‘One Time Game’ was first performed alongside a string quartet and harp. The track was finished in London at Jamie’s studio.

Widely regarded as the leader of the new sound of house, Jamie Jones is renowned for his pioneering music; his cross genre band, Hot Natured; his ground-breaking label, Hot Creations; and his world-renowned event series, Paradise.

Kate Simko has carved an international career as an electronic music producer, film composer, live performer, and DJ. Getting her start on Ghostly alongside Matthew Dear and Ryan Elliot, Kate has since released on Get Physical, Hello?Repeat, Leftroom, and No. 19, and was named one of Chicago’s Top 10 DJs by XLR8R. This fall Kate has an album upcoming on Sasha’s label Last Night on Earth, and her debut London Electronic Orchestra EP on the Vinyl Factory. Jem Cooke is a singer-songwriter from London, recently signed to Sony ATV through Naughty Songs.The artwork was created by Peter Nudo who was also used for the previous Emerald City release.

After a stellar debut performance at this year’s Coachella festival and two years since their chart-climbing ‘Benediction’ release, Hot Natured unleash new material for Emerald City with the anthemic ‘Off World Lover’ remixed by Will Clarke.

‘Off World Lover’ rides the path between discerning house anthem and enduring pop classic beautifully, the subtleties of Ali Love’s vocals masterfully executed amidst Hot Natured’s trademark futuristic analogue sounds. The labour and evolution of the band is evident in its simplicity and matured approach, and the result an instant classic. 

Rising Bristolian producer Will Clarke strips back ‘Off World Lover’ and shapes it for the club circuit through buoyant beats and voluptuous breakdowns, both set for release on Emerald City, the newest label venture from Jamie Jones and Lee Foss, on 18th September.

Arguably the biggest dance music act to break out of the underground circuit, with three well-acclaimed singles under their belt, ‘Reverse Skydiving’, ‘Forward Motion’ and ‘Benediction’, Hot Natured are a four-piece consisting of previously established and accomplished music producers Jamie Jones, Lee Foss, Ali Love and Luca Cazal. Since their debut album smashed the charts at the end of 2013 they have taken an eighteen month hiatus from releasing, burying themselves deep in the studio working on their follow up, set for release in 2016. 

The roots of Will Clarke’s sound stem from both his home town of Bristol, and his seasonal home in Ibiza, which have forged a style that fuses the best of Bristol’s bass elements with the upfront house music sensibilities of the white isle. His productions have appeared on labels such as Defected, Dirtybird, Southern Fried and he recently launched his own label, Cut A Rug.

Next up on Emerald City German duo Raumakustik serve up a sonic trip for the senses via ‘Dem A Pree’ with northern talents Patrick Topping and Jey Kurmis onboard to dish out two killer remixes.  
 
Following the huge summer anthem ‘Raider’ which dropped on Hot Creations subsidiary Hot Trax last year, Volker & Seb aka Raumakustik have been gaining an army of fans with releases following on Toolroom, Suara and Formatik. This next release, ‘Dem A Pree’ is a heavy club weapon of the highest order, prompted by dynamic and powerful vocals. “Pree means sticking your nose into someone else’s business,’ they explain. ‘Patrick Topping and Jey Kurmis did just that with our track but in this case it’s a positive thing because their perspectives on sound and vocals made it complete.”
 
Since his first release on Hot Trax back in 2013, Patrick Topping has since become one of the biggest names in the business with an intense touring schedule, a string of successful releases and a prized residency at Jamie’s Paradise night at DC10. Here he spins his signature style into the original with an intoxicating bassline that will shake any dance floor. 
 
Rising star Jey Kurmis has been making a name for himself on labels such as Moon Harbour, VIVa Music and Wow! Recordings since his artist defining EP on Hot Creations last year. Stripping the original back he creates a solid, low slung roller with industrial stabs at the forefront.

Lee Foss has long been recognized as an artist of many talents. A steadfast visionary with his hands in all aspects of creative production, Lee's power has always stemmed from his connection not only to the energy of the human experience but also from the way that it is expressed through the conception and performance of electronic music. After many years of involvement in the musical community through his labels Emerald City and Hot Creations, his collaborative projects Hot Natured and Pleasure State, and his extensive DJ career, Lee is finally releasing his first full length solo album Alchemy, out now.

Alchemy comes at a time of inspiration and focus for Lee, after taking a hiatus from solo production for a couple of years. With work beginning in October 2015, Alchemy has been a long time coming for Lee, and is a cohesive body of work brimming with intent. Leaning heavily on analog synths and vintage drum machines with some occasional guitar and live bass, the album features guest appearances from frequent collaborators Anabel Englund and Infinity Ink, along with others.

About the album, Lee says, "I titled the album Alchemy because I've long been fascinated by the scientific and spiritual dichotomy it represented, sort of as the crossroads of modern science and ancient spirituality and its ethos of distilling perfection in the physical and spiritual realm. It's dismissed as pseudoscience now but most of modern chemistry and the scientific method stems from it, and I'm interested in a world that better combines the spiritual realm with the scientific and western medicine we worship today. I feel like making music is the modern alchemy as we search for that perfect series of tones to reach our magnum opus."

In recent history, Lee has gained recognition through the heralded Hot Natured album Different Sides of the Sun, their scintillating live performance at Coachella, and his eminent collaboration with MK and Anabel Englund "Electricity."

Rising star Kuo Climax’s EP on Emerald City entitled ‘Tomorrow’ features two profound originals with a stellar remix from fellow Spanish artist Dennis Cruz.
 
“In my childhood living with my parents we always listened to Hip Hop and R&B,’ said Kuo Climax of the EP. ‘I have attempted to mix these influences using my early memories as inspiration and I’m so pleased to see it finally released on Emerald City.”
 
Kuo Climax aka Felipe Jimenez Gálvez hails from Malaga in Spain, where starting out he quickly turned his event series at Pier 4 into a regular roadblock before using the shows as a platform to launch his own DJ career. Now going from strength to strength as an artist in his own right, Kuo has a stacked release schedule going well into 2017 and a touring calendar that spans Europe’s biggest clubbing destinations.
 
Madrid native Dennis Cruz made his debut in 2010 and has since made a name for himself as one of the most talented Spanish artists leading the way today, gaining an army of supporters including Marco Carola, Joseph Capriati, Nicole Maudaber and Timo Maas to name a few. The Golden Boy aka Dominic Hammonds had a momentous 2016 after releasing on Glasgow Underground, MadTech, Love & Other and Nothing Else Matters whilst extensively touring Europe. Heavily supported by his fell ow DJ peers, ‘ Egyptian Lover’ is a prime example of his tight production.

Next up with their debut release on Hot Creations’ sister label Emerald City are former college roommates Josh Taylor and Justin Jay. An energetic track full of bounce and edgy samples, Pussy Pop is an ideal addition to the label’s young venture. Bringing his signature dance floor rhythm, Jamie Jones has delivered high quality on the remix with a fun acompaniament to the original.
 
Josh Taylor began his musical career in his hometown of St Louis, Missouri. Starting out as an acoustic pop artist strumming at his ukulele and songwriting, his laid back attitude (and discovery of nightclubs) led him down a path of exploration through music genres. His unique approach to writing hooks and basslines is apparent across the board, from his band The Cozy Boys to his previous collaboration with Justin Jay on the exceptional Fantastic Voyage album.
 
In response to how the two of them came to collaborate, Justin answered “When we were roommates in college, Josh opened me up to the world of singing and songwriting through his jams on the ukulele while I started dragging him to clubs and warehouse parties. He inspired me to take a stab at my own singing/songwriting and I pushed him to try DJing/production.” 
 
The head of his own label Fantastic Voyage and one of the youngest producers to release on Dirtybird, Justin has already seen success that extends beyond his years. With an array of fruitful releases under his belt, the LA based producer/DJ has received support from the likes of Claude VonStroke and Disclosure, boasting “Future Star” recognition by the influential Pete Tong. Justin manifests his soul, funk and jazz routes in a forward-thinking manner that yields his unmistakable house tracks.

Industry veteran Paolo Martini is next to join the Emerald City family with Red Rocks. Bringing the funk, he delivers a solid two-track release with irresistible groove and dance-floor disco heat.

Paolo Martini has been in the business for over 30 years, first releasing with Gianni Bini on various labels such as Defected, Strictly Rhythm, Universal, Azuli and Nervous. They soon established their own label Ocean Trax and handled remixes of Kylie Minogue and Jamiroquai. Paolo has also been testimonial for several clothing brands including Diesel and Adidas and also the Rane MP2015 mixer. His following co-productions can be found on acclaimed labels such as Hot Creations, Snatch!, Moon Harbour, 8Bit, Saved and Cecille amongst many others. 2017 starts the beginning of a new adventure with a string of releases geared up under his new solo project.

Joeski’s roots are in the underground house scene of NYC in the 90s, where he played regularly at historical clubs such as The Limelight, Tunnel, Palladium and Roxy. For his remix he keeps things firmly focused on the dancefloor, with a dramatic build and unmistakable disco​ flare. 

LA based artist ​Lauren Lane has played some of the world's best clubs and festivals such as DC10, Warung, Coachella and BPM Festival to mention a few. Producer, vocalist SPNCR brings his soulful pop sound to Jamie Jones and Lee Foss’ vocal-led, crossover focused imprint, Emerald City. In This Moment features LA based rapper, Lorde Sanctus and the package receives four high energy, club headed remixes from Mark Jenkyns, Russ Yallop and Andre Salmon.

In The Moment bounds out of the block, an uplifting electro pop track combining SPNCR’s soulful storytelling and a fresh sixteen bars from Lorde Sanctus. “I wrote this song 5 years ago and didn't know if I would ever play it for people. Glad it found the right home with my homies."

Mark Jenkyns reshapes the original into a bumping, loopy peak-time roller, with layered vocals throughout the middle section to form a seriously techy trip. Russ Yallop supplies a tough, funking house refix, with filtered samples of the original and Lord Sanctus’ vocal snippets scattered around the mix. A punchy bassline leads out Andre Salmon’s twisted deep reimagination. Andre supplies his Raw Mix; a jackin’ beats and bass focused roller. He chops up the vocal to cut between the groove as it ploughs on into the early hours.

In 1989, an Italo-house band named Sueño Latino released a self titled track, which went on to become one of the most revered electronic music records of all time. Louis Botella is now set to release a sensational remake on Emerald City this September. 

The track itself samples part of Manuel Göttsching’s influential E2-E4, an album known for its role in the development of house and techno. Fast forward to 2018 and the record is again set to be revived thanks to Louis Botella, and with the blessing and support of Göttsching and Expanded Music. 

Botella explains “it was one of the first house tracks that I played in my sets when I started DJing in the early 90's. When I listen to the original I always have the same feeling. The song is warm, catchy and hypnotic. When I started working on the cover, I wanted to keep this same feeling. It was important for me to recreate part of the original sounds but also to put my personal touch in the track." On his interpretation of the track, Louis has stayed true to the original, replaying each part and adding an extra dimension to the tracks through a sparkling piano topline, a new vocal hook and dreamy arpeggiations.  

Louis’ passion for the art of DJing was sparked from a young age. At sixteen he got his first gig at a club in Luxemburg and released his first record in 1998. Since then, he’s released on respected labels such as Classic Music Company, Ovum Records and Poker Flat Recordings.

Philadelphia-based DJ and producer, Jay Hill, brings her soulful touch to Emerald City with I Am Here, featuring vocals from the incredible South African slam-poet Lazarusman. UK powerhouse Richy Ahmed completes the package with a weighty remix. 

Hearing Lazarusman’s poems online, Jay Hill was inspired to take two of his works and create a beautiful story. “I envisioned the final outcome to be a feel good, deep tech track and worked with a lot of percussions to add colour intrigue" she explains. Of his lyrics, Lazarusman clarifies that the line “do you remember me?” refers to “when we meet or interact with someone on a deep, spiritual level it might mean that we've possible met before in another life”. 

The EP opens with the original cut of I Am Here. The thudding kick drum is juxtaposed against a warm, woozy bassline as Lazarusman’s catchy vocal hook echoes throughout. It’s dreamy yet assured, making it perfect dance floor fodder. On his reimagining of the track, Richy Ahmed litters it with percussion and adds a pounding bassline to create that definitive after-hours number. 

Jay Hill is steadily forging a solid reputation for herself in the industry. Her DJ sets show her innate ability to transcend genres and captivate dance floors. She’s had releases on New York’s vinyl-only label Local Raider, FM Elle, and Mr C’s Superfreq imprint. South-African poet, Lazarusman, has collaborated with some of the biggest names in music including Florian Kruse, Martin Stimming and Alex Dimou and has released music on highly regarded labels including Gruuv, Stil Vor Talent, Get Physical and Rebellion. One of the key members of the Hot Creations family, Richy Ahmed has also had releases on Strictly Rhythm as well as his own label, Four Thirty Two. His prolific DJ sets have earned him a place in Resident Advisor’s Top 100 DJs three years in a row.

DJ and producer Jaden Thompson may be young in years, but he’s already making waves in the industry. He brings his infectious sound to Emerald City this March with three distinct tracks.

Title track Alright is an uplifting offering with an assuring vocal hook, creating an exotic aesthetic with tribal drum pads and a warm bassline. Star Sign is a joyful number, a definite summer track, that leaves the listener with feelings of elation. Freak Groove, produced alongside Dub Clap, closes the EP on a dubbier note, combining a rolling bass with a smattering of hi-hats.

“Recently I’ve been wanting to show a bit more variation throughout my music production, reflecting a range of influences, and not setting myself any barriers. As soon as I finished the first four tracks in this new mindset, I sent them to Jamie, and he signed three of them. As you can imagine, I couldn’t be happier." - Jaden Thompson.

At the tender age of just 19, Jaden Thompson has already had his productions signed to labels including Cuttin’ Headz and Material. His debut release, 2017’s All Day, was one of Pete Tong’s top tracks played on Radio 1 that same year. As a DJ, he’s played alongside some of dance music’s key figures including The Martinez Brothers, Nick Curly and Tiga. Already garnering such huge support so early on, 2019 looks set to be a pivotal moment in Thompson’s career.

Mirko Di Florio lands on Hot Creations sister label Emerald City this April with Electric Brain, alongside two dynamic remixes from label boss Jamie Jones. Emerald City focuses on more crossover releases and this scintillating record will no doubt find its way into many clubs and radio stations this summer.

“I made this track straight after a night on the terrace at Paradise, Jamie played so much good music I was brimming with inspiration to create something to be played at these parties. That night was so crazy and made such an impression on me that I named the tune Electric Brain.” Mirko Di Florio

On Electric Brain a shuffling rhythm, weighty bassline and classic rave synths combine to create a force for the dancefloor, transporting the mind to hedonistic days at DC-10. The first of Jamie Jones’ ‘Brain’ remixes sees him add his trademark head-nodding groove. With lighter piano melody and distortions to the 303 this one is more subtle, but equally as infectious. Jamie’s final rework focuses around simple looping bass, whilst hi-hats, stabs and wonky electronics create a driving energy to lose yourself to.

Initially making his name as a resident of the Do Not Sleep Ibiza party and collaborating with Lee Foss on Repopulate Mars, Mirko Di Florio has become a staple name of the international house scene. Impressive releases such as his Mesmerized EP on Green Velvet’s Relief label, Long Time on Armada and an edit of Kanye West hit many DJ charts and were played by the likes of Fisher, Diplo, Marco Carola and Jamie Jones. Touring across the world and amassing many fans in the process, in 2020 he also joined MK’s Area 10 team.
