I wrote “Luck” during a time of confusion and when things that I used to love started to feel meaningless to me. Despite that, the universe was kind enough to keep me around the company of people who made me feel it’s okay to think and live differently. I picked up my guitar and suddenly, it all felt new again. I penned the song thinking about how thankful one must feel to have that opportunity to come across people who you can be your most authentic self with. 

Special thanks to Levi Masuli for capturing the song’s intent. I sent him the demo without explaining what it’s about, but it’s as if he understood it completely and proceeded to do his magic. His field recordings and his arrangement for the synths and strings provided more layers in the storytelling of this song.

the new mitski album has been a good companion to me lately. this song tugs at my heartstrings the most along with “heaven."
there’s something so cathartic whenever she sings, “a whole cake!” hope i channeled the same intensity. enjoy this voice memo cover from me.
