Hot Creations favourite and Paradise resident Patrick Topping is back onboard the seminal imprint with the hotly anticipated, two track release, Be Sharp Say Nowt.

Road tested on the world’s biggest stages and at the most notorious parties, title track Be Sharp Say Nowt encapsulates Patrick’s signature sound and has proven to be his biggest track of the year. “The gospel vocal from LaShun Pace is amazing!” says Patrick, “I'm so happy to have it finally come out on Hot Creations”. On the flip, Track Change offers a contrast and a slightly different side to Patrick’s sound.

Spearheading the new wave of electronic music producers coming from the North of England, Patrick Topping has made a name as a prolific producer, securing seven different Beatport number 1s since his debut release in 2013. His accolades also count two DJ Awards for Best Newcomer and Track Of The Season for Forget, as well as DJ Mag’s Best Tune in their Best of British Awards. Last year he rounded things off with his first DJ mix album, Paradise On Earth vol 1, which received Mixmag’s Compilation of The Month and 10/10 from Germany’s Faze Mag, as well as reaching number 1 in Beatport’s House chart.

This September, the Brooklyn based band Underground System released their debut LP WHAT ARE YOU. on Soul Clap Records and embarked on a national label tour. They are now slated to make their European debut in December, and will release a trio of remixes from storied German DJ and Running Back label head Gerd Janson to support. 
Described as a “Band that defies categories” by NPR, Underground System is an ever-evolving convergence of musical and cultural influences. The female-fronted group of global dance music deconstructionists have cultivated a sound as inimitable as its members. Something familiar and referential that simultaneously projects a fiercely original energy, the band synthesizes elements of afrobeat, new wave, dance music, and contemporary classical performance, seen through the international lens of a New York City band in 2018. Peter Matson, bandleader/producer, comments, “Our music is heavily influenced by the context that is projected by the New York underground. As much as we are rooted in afrobeat and other well recognized musical styles, we pay homage to the way these sounds were combined and progressed over the years by pushing to find our own original voice. 

The band has built a lasting reputation around a seamlessly executed stage show, astonishing wherever they go, and compelling crowds to move with unbridled verve. Continuing to reinvent their brand of global dance music, Underground System remains a force determined to recreate, redefine, and reconstruct. Underground System is comprised of Peter Matson on guitar, sequencing, and synths, Domenica Fossati on lead vocals, flute, and percussion, Yoshio Kobayashi on Drums, Jon Granoff on bass, Lollise Mbi on shekere and background vocals, Olatunji Tunji on congas, and Carter Yusatake on trumpet and keyboards. 

Although they are based in New York, Underground System came together from different places, countries, and cultures. Their diverse life experiences including different political times and cultural identities is the foundation for the new album WHAT ARE YOU, the band’s first full-length LP. Departing from the extended forms typically associated with Underground System’s live performances and stylistic roots, the new album is a deep 10 track look into the group’s mix of talented personnel and profound sonic diversity. The first single from WHAT ARE YOU, “Go” was released with an accompanying animated video created by Alice Cohen. The video saw it’s worldwide premiere on Billboard. It’s impossible not to hear the band’s development on this track, where they stay true to their afrobeat roots while incorporating elements of new wave, alternative and post-punk. The full LP was released September 7, 2018 and has since received press and play from outlets such as NPR/PRI, NPR Alt Latino, KCRW, Mixmag, Love Injection, and BBC. 

Since the release, the downtown NY meets afro disco stylings of the album cut ‘Just A Place’ has landed favorably in many DJ’s inboxes, and set off a wave of remixing interest. The first of these remixes to be highlighted via official release on Soul Clap Records will be Running Back label boss Gerd Janson’s driving big room friendly interpretation. Held together by Janson’s signature pulsing italo bass, New Beat influence. The 3 mix package is dancefloor ready. 

The LP has also clearly piqued the interest of music fans across Europe, and following many connections made via radio and agencies well receiving the new music in France and the UK, Underground System is now continuing to support WHAT ARE YOU by bringing the full band overseas for the first time, culminating in their live European debut, December 5-7 at Trans Musicales festival in Rennes, France.

Kalita are happy to announce the first ever 12” reissue of Henry Turner Jr.'s hugely sought-after 1980 disco single, 'Music', backed by the first ever re-release of his 1984 boogie single 'Forever Us'. So elusive and in-demand, the former routinely commands four-figure sums on the rare occasion that a copy surfaces for collectors and DJs to scramble over. The latter is equally as great, commanding three-figure sums and demonstrating clearly America's development by the mid-1980s away from disco and towards the boogie craze. In addition, here Kalita accompany the release with a never-before-seen press photo of Henry's band Crystal and interview-based liner notes.

Based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the Crystal band consisted of Henry on guitar with local musicians Ranches Hall on keyboards and vocals and Ricky Broomfield on drums. By the tail end of the 1970s, Crystal had settled themselves into the local music scene, and performed at many nearby venues including The Golden Palace, Derringers', The J Club, and for numerous fraternities and sororities of nearby universities.

By 1980, the band were ready to record their first single, 'Music', in the hope that it would be a radio hit. As Henry explains, “we were driven performers and 'Music' was the perfect tool to get us radio play”. They decided to pay to lay down and press their music at Soundsmith Recording Studio, which had the ability to not only record but to also manufacture and release their music on the studio's own eponymously- named label. Only five hundred copies of the record were pressed, distributed by the band themselves, meaning that today, copies almost never turn up for sale. A fantastic disco track, upon release the band deservedly succeeded in their original aim, and it was a radio hit in Baton Rouge.

Within four years of 'Music's' release, Ranches Hall had left the band, reducing it to two core members – Henry and Ricky. However, still eager for success, the now-slimmed down Crystal band recorded 'Forever Us' over a couple of days as a follow-up single to 'Music', laying down their instruments at the local Sound Trax Studio, produced by Henry himself. In contrast to the number of additional session musicians that had performed on their first record, here only Henry and Ricky contributed, playing all the instruments and providing the vocals themselves. On release, the record received notable success, not only in the US but also across the pond on the UK scene.

Since then, Henry has continued to release both his and other musicians' music on his own Hit City label, as well as developing his musical style and cementing himself in at the core of the Baton Rouge music scene.

We hope that this timely re-release helps to make such great pieces of music accessible and affordable to all once more.

Exclusive Sebjak & Fahlberg '4Ever She May Live (DJ Koze Edit)'

Scandinavian producers Sebastian Jak and Alexander Fahlberg, short Sebjak and Fahlberg, team up again to deliver one of ADE's most talked about tunes, '4Ever She May Live', that comes in a DJ Koze Edit and has been played out by various luminaries. After EPs on Jonas Rathmann's Element Series, Sebjak's own label Bibliotheque Records or MoBlack Records, the Stockholm based producers return to the latter bringing Hamburg's finest DJ Koze along who turns the original take into an almost nine minute lasting journey by implementing filters to emphasize the raw euphoric club experience. The extraordinary producer who basically turns or can adjust any given track to a catchy musical piece again shows his musical genius stretching the basic melodic loop to an audible unmistakable maximum, or just the right amount of bars to give the vocal its moments to unfold in-between. After his rework of Gerry Read's 'It'll All Be Over', which was a summer's festival season favorite, on Pampa, DJ Koze now comes in with a more raw, more dark but equally danceable tune for the autumn/ winter run.
