Premiere: Moby - Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad (Enrico Sangiuliano Remix)

Filth on Acid is excited to welcome Cari Golden for a new collaboration with label honcho Reinier Zonneveld. "Bending The End" is the second track they recorded together and the follow up of the enormous hit "Things We Might Have Said", which was one of the biggest electronic hits of 2016.

That being said, Cari and Reinier wanted to bring something new to the table and started with a white canvas when composing "Bending The End", and because of that they ended up taking a totally different direction. This time the track comes in two variations, the melody centred original mix and a dancefloor orientated 4AM mix. 

The original mix starts out with a throbbing, deep Moog bassline, and a round, deep bassdrum, while at the same time blending soft, haunting effects and a fragmented, distorted melody. Cari Golden's voice, deep and beautiful, comes in and sets the mood for a hypnotic slow burner. The bassline initiates a subtle chord progression and delicate production skills elevate the mood of the track. Powerful but stripped back drum programming along with short bursts of white noise bring impact for the dancefloor. A long breakdown starts the orchestra by three of the big classic synths - Oberheim, Moog and Juno - and pave the road for unimpeachable ear candy with Cari's angel like voice as the centerpoint of the attention. All the elements come together and form an indisputable peak; without building up too obvious. In the vein of bending the end to the beginning again, the track's outro ends as it started: deep and delicate. The second version in the package - 4AM Mix - has a definite peaktime feel to it. Powerful driving drums and a heavy bed of sub bass kick lead the way to the introduction of looped elements of Cari's voice. Colossal, bassy stabs hint to original in a disrobed way. Long synth notes lying somewhere between bass and melody introduce the harmonies of the original during the breakdowns and translate it to demanding dancefloors in a profound way.

Enrico Sangiuliano - Astral Projection

Joran van Pol is back on Minus with Edge, a fantastic four track EP that is his first on the label since 2013. In the years since, the Amsterdam based artist has set up his own FADE label and has continued to evolve his cinematic techno sound. 

Previously, van Pol has also released on labels like Rejected, SCI+TEC and Ideal Audio, and has the support of all the big techno players who often reach for his tunes in their sets. As a DJ he is just as in demand, with headline slots everywhere from Space Ibiza to Time Warp all behind him. Having recently set up a new studio, he is still coming on strong with fresh inspiration and ever more essential grooves. 

‘Illos’ opens things with seven spooky minutes of icy techno. Rolling rubbery drums pump away below, and the details up top make for an evocative soundscape with distant industrial sounds, groaning bass and razor sharp hi hats all filling your mind with imagery. Next comes title track ‘Edge’, another brilliant sonic landscape with tense chords repeating over ticking percussion. It’s a track that builds tension throughout, and keeps you looking over your shoulder into the eerie blackness. 

The perfectly high pressure ‘Return’ is one that locks you in and never lets up, with warped synths snaking above traintrack like drums and hits. A dark, rumbling bassline and the sounds of pistons releasing air all add to the intensity of this brain-melting bit of futuristic techno. 

Last but not least, ‘Frostbite’ is then the most spacious and spooky offering of the lot. It has freaky alien sound designs scattered around the track with supple kicks driving the whole thing forwards. It’s an absorbing cut that hurries along and takes you for a thrilling ride. 

These are four more inventive techno tracks from one of the contemporary scene’s brightest stars.

A significant release for artist and label; the sonic incarnation of Fitzpatrick’s growing maturity as a producer and an indication as to the next evolution of the Drumcode sound.
