In our 40th installment, we highlighted one of the rewarding aspects of developing a mix series: the great people you meet along the way. Today's featured guest, David Meyer, exemplifies this sentiment while being a skillful selector with a passion for disco, acid, trance, house, EBM, electro, and breaks. Additionally, he serves as the head of the mix series From The Vaults, extending invitations to both established and up-and-coming artists. Last but not least, don't lose sight of the fact he was in charge of SOULMEEX 054 together with his partner Isaac Arga, under the moniker Acid Mint.

To honour the lads making the Euros football final this month's Get2kno is a homegrown talent special - an hour of dancefloor heaters by producers from the UK and Ireland and all at 130-150bpm 😮‍💨😮‍💨🧨🧨🇬🇧🇮🇪. 

In usual Get2kno style there’s fun facts about the producers along the way 🤓. It's a genre rollercoaster with house, bass, electro pop, garage, breaks and beyond. Includes recent ones by Melle Brown, Holly Lester, Otik, Charli XCX and Facta plus a mashup by yours truly and more. 

I worked up a proper sweat having a dance recording this one - hope you do too!

Especial is delighted to welcome Odopt back to the label, this time teaming up with Sano for a club heavy global excursion and the vocal deep dive of Picha. A meeting of friends and collaborators across continents and years, finally presented in vocal and instrumental, as well the welcome return of label stalwart Jamie Paton with additional remix and dub to bite.

Long-time fans of Sebastian Hoyos aka Sano’s productions, seeing him release for Matias Aguayo’s Comeme and Munich’s Public Possession, Especial jumped at the chance to present Odopt’s reworkings of Sano’s oeuvre, taking vocalist’s Lolito
night-time exoticisms and offering a red lit basement, dark room anthem.

As with all good things, time let the music ferment. The 2016 outline became a 2019 demo, first presented to the label, and emphatically embraced. With Sano returning from Barcelona to his native Columbia, replacing the world of club culture with horticulture, Odopt found their new Paris base led them to finally hit the pocket, the tribal percussion propelled by the razor-sharp snare and perfectly, more cowbell.

Who better then to request remixes than the origin of Especial, it’s first artist, mainstay mixer and designer of each artwork since the label’s birth in late 2013, Jamie Paton. Having gone on to release for label peers and inspirations, ESP Institute and Multi Culti, this is a welcome return. Paton’s trademark deep dubwise is ever present, as is the exemplary programming, but now the twist of breaks in Remix form gives this EP widescreen dynamics.

The sound system stretching Dub mix rounds off, the vocals pulled back, the wobble and trembling bass, again highlight Especial’s mission, club music for the head and feet, mixing new wave with neu rave, beats with breaks, looking back but always, always moving forwards.

Get2kno went live & direct for the very first time on Saturday and omg it was so fun 📡🎙️! We went straight in with club vibes for this one - head down in the club at 2am was the vision - with some proggy gorgeousness, house, breaks, jersey club vibes and a couple R n B edits to end with some nostalgia. Shoutout to the amazing chatroom crew and big thanks to my dear friend and top selector Josh CK for joining me on the show for a b2b! Show includes tracks by two of my favourite producers of the past year ones to watch Madelic & Will Silver 🚀🧨 and a confession that I may have broke dry January for some Dutch courage wine to calm the inaugural live nerves 🙃😅.

April's Get2kno is dedicated to FLINTA promoters and producers! Earlier this month I launched a club night with one of my best mates, and we really came to appreciate how much work goes into making nights happen - so I wanted to spotlight some of the promoters who put diversity into the heart of what they do. There are still way too many all-male line-ups out there! And celebrating and supporting FLINTA talent and people is more important now than ever. For the show we hear from 9 wonderful promoters about their events and why representation is so important in this space. The voice notes are interwoven with a mix of entirely FLINTA producers, many of whom are promoters themselves. Expect proggy goodness, dark hypnotic house, gorgeous breaks and an end track by a true icon.

Get2kno live 2.0 b2b with Josh CK is up for your listening pleasure…! The theme for this month is ‘I wish I was at Glasto’, the fomo hit HARD this year but we were happy to transport the listeners to the field for an hour of club-ready tunes that were farm-worthy (see what I did there?). 

Starting off at 134bpm it’s a journey of acid, trance, 90s sleaze, breaks, jersey club ending with some grab-your-friend-for-a-cuddle dubs of classics. It wasn’t a planned show and I was especially excited to get to play D Tyrone’s dreamy Mala edit that I’ve been obsessed with for ages but haven’t had a chance to play! Also features brand spankin new goodness from the incredible Amaliah and Om Unit.

We had some technical issues at the start so the mic intro is a tad late and a bit messy, forgive us and blame the gremlins! Also some silly chat about how to pronounce Pangaea and whether the Horny Mix featured was horny enough for our liking.
