Uhaw Na Lupa

is considered as the Father of Neo-Ethnic Music in the Philippines. His greatest contribution to the music industry is the introduction of the popularization of neo-ethnic rock in the late 1970s along with his band, Pen-Pen. Most of his compositions bear environmental protection, nationalism, humanity, good governance and promotion of peace as themes.

Sanglay's professional music career started when Vicor Records released his song "Pen-Pen de Sarapen" in 1978. He was a recording artist of Ivory Records, CCP artist (Outreach and Exchange Program) and one of the main cast of Lapu-lapu, a multi-lingual neo-ethno classical-rock opera. 
Emil Sanglay received multiple awards for his compositions and singing. Together with Sanglay's group Penpen, they have been credited for many innovations and are considered experimentalists; Pen-Pen and Sanglay are well known for their musical style that integrated the sounds of Filipino indigenous instruments with modern pop music.
