Germany’s Tilman inaugurates his new imprint Pleasant Systems this June with the ‘Adventures’ EP, featuring collaborations with Will Buck and Rhode & Brown. Mainz, Germany based producer and DJ Tilman has been dropping his twist on contemporary house over the past decade on labels such as Shall Not Fade, Life Is For Living and Quality Vibes as well as his own Fine imprint, run in collaboration with Johannes Albert. Here though, Tilman marks a new beginning with the launch of Pleasant Systems, a new imprint designed to shine a light on vintage inspired house sounds from both himself and friends. Up first is ‘What’s Mine Is Mine’, a collaboration with Brooklyn’s Will Buck which lays down an amalgamation of airy synth pads, choppy bass stabs, bright piano lines and enchanting flute like melodies atop a swinging drum groove. ‘Strawberry Fields’ follows, stripping things back to shuffled percussion, billowing ethereal textures and wandering sub bass tones while fluttering brass tones and resonant leads ebb and flow within. ‘Velvet Park’ opens the flip side, this time joining forces with Rhode & Brown, embracing a classic sound with raw crunchy drums, delayed piano chords, bumpy bass stabs, cinematic strings and brass hooks throughout. ‘Lovin'’ then rounds out the release, dropping the tempo, featuring the voice of Tilman himself and laying focus on off-kilter organic percussion, twinkling resonant tones, eighties tinged synth chords and g funk moog style bass to perfectly conclude Pleasant System’s debut...

Taking the keys for the thirtieth release, Dutch dynamo Cleanfield, who lays down a four track EP dripping in summer sun. 

The A side opens with ‘Sunshy’ a disco house banger, complete with bumping bass, sun-kissed toplines and warped Kool & The Gang synth warbles, before ‘Oregano’, takes you on a Mediterranean flavoured, supercharged dream house journey spliced with tripped out arppegiated wanderings. 

On the flip, ‘Krispy’ a tropical, synth-heavy party starter with sandy beaches and crystal-clear oceans in mind and ‘Caught In The Act’ an underwater sea sensation, drenched in drunken arps and a cocktail of chants, guitar licks and good vibes.

Chilean artist Massiande is back on Freerange with his second
lease for the label entitled Dancing Is Life. Those of you familiar with his releases on the likes of Ibadan, MOS, Phonica and most recently Midnight Riot and Groovin, will have a good idea what you can expect from this talented producer; top drawer classic US house sounds with a minimal approach and attention to production which makes his tracks sing on a big system.

Opener Dancing Is Life features Detroit poet and vocalist Diamondancer
who you may know from Jimpster’s remix of Delano Smith’s Message For The DJ amongst others) who delivers a powerful performance to accompany the bass-heavy, stripped-back underground groove.

Next up Massiande goes for the jugular with the powerhouse that is Here Comes The House Music. Primed and ready for peak time club spins this muscular 909 jam will hook you in with it’s looped up vocal, moody Detroit pads and propulsive rave stabs. An absolute weapon for your sets!

I Feel It takes us back into deeper territory with a rolling bassline bouncing around a shuffled house groove punctuated with fizzing synth stabs and vocal samples.

Closing out this brilliant release we have Focus which goes deeper still complete with a classic Nu Groove-esque sound palette and blissed out atmosphere. One to get lost in in the early hours!

PREMIERE: Massiande - I Feel It [Freerange Records]

While Iner's Dobro label has released a number of full-length projects, the majority have been compilations. This, then - a debut LP from Russian producer Stogov, known primarily for blending deep house and jazz in different ways - is a significant release for DOBRO. It's also rather good. Stogov begins by peppering a thickset deep house groove with attractive female vocalisations and fluid jazz guitars ('Imagine'), before opting for loose-limbed jazz breaks, bouncy house beats and Todd Edwards style sample cut-ups on 'Smooth Turn'. Deeper, drowsier and more garage-house leaning vibes are the order of the day on 'Everybody', 'Y're Free' is a classic-sounding slab of thickset US deep house headiness, 'Comeback' is woozy, skippy and delightful, and closing cut 'Shine' sounds like a tooled-up take on 'Boulevard'-era St Germain.
