That Westside Gunn/DOOM collab -- haven’t heard that one. That a custom mix?

In hour 2 it's an interview with bassist/songwriter/vocalist Stephen Bruner, aka Thundercat. Will Ashon talks to him about his introduction to music, some of the tracks that have influenced him over the years and his new album 'Apocalypse' which is out now on Brainfeeder. Along with tracks from that album, we also hear music from Jaco Pastorius, Stanley Clarke, De La Soul, Chick Corea and Clams Casino.

Following that, DK returns for a brief selection of tracks from George Duke RIP. His career not only produced extensive solo work, but he has also played on countless albums by other artists over the years. We hear some of his tracks from the MPS label including 'For love (I come your friend)' as covered by Thundercat, plus his work alongside David Axelrod, Stanley Clarke and Billy Cobham with the track that was sampled by Souls of Mischief for '93 til infinity'.

A couple of months ago I was asked if I wanted to DJ an MF DOOM tribute night. I immediately said yes because I felt like it would both be an honor and a challenge to try and make an unforgettable night and mix for the patreons. Little did I truly know what I would be taking on. In the weeks leading into the event, I engrossed myself in all things MF Doom and Hip-Hop and discovered an even larger discography than I was ready for (nervous lol). 

This mix contains mostly MF Doom, his usual (and unusual) villainous collaborating suspects, some Doom from his early Hip-Hop projects KMD, some forgotten MF Doom tunes, MF Doom instrumentals, remixes, and a Mos Def tune here and there (one unreleased).  Call it 95% DOOM!!

I wanted to share this mix because I don't know if I'll ever use these tracks in the future, I'm really proud of it and I think it should be another MF Doom mix out there for the people.

After a long recording session for another project, Moose Dawa started to chop up a sample 03.30 in the morning which caught both Aidinity & Amo K’s attention. An hour later the verses were recorded, combining their English & French words and the track was done. After hoarding the track for 2 years they decided to link up with Moncef Henaien to bring the track to life with the right visuals. A perfect example of how the creative process sometimes unfolds.

JELLY'S GROOVE - EPISODE #1

1) Tell us a bit about yourself and your record collection.

I'm Shatter Hands, hailing from Svendborg, Denmark. I'm mainly in to production, but I've been DJ'ing and scratching since the mid '00's. Raised on Portishead and DJ Shadow, but born again via the so-called beat scene of the '10's. Autodidact digger with a collection of ca. 1500 pieces. Not too many 7's but they've become my fav format in recent years. My collection consists mainly of instrumental beats, rap, some house and jazz, past and present.

2) 45/7 is all about celebrating the 7". Can you tell us a bit about what you love about the format.

I used to skip the 7 bins when I was digging and now I blame myself. I've come to love the format because of the size and portability, the labels and their artwork and not having to skip through tracks when DJ'ing.

3) 50 minutes of vinyl goodness... can you talk us through your selection for your 45/7 mix?

News of MF DOOM's passing really got to me, so I'm starting out, and ending, with him and Madlib. In between you'll find beats, rap and some psych/fuzz/heavy on the drums kinda stuff. It's a short mix, given the size of my collection, but It'll give you an idea of what I listen to and play these days.
