An eclectic collection of genres and moods, from dancefloor-ready bass music, to lush breaks, to punchy, syncopated gqom, vibrant house and more.

Not Bad for a Girl are proud to be supporting Brighter Sound, a creative music charity, with this release. Rooted in the North of England, they change the lives of individuals through music, support and promote diverse talent and act as a catalyst for change in the music sector, from education to industry. All profits from this compilation will be going to Brighter Sound.

DaiSu's contribution to NBFG001 is a stunning production which utilises foley, the reproduction and manipulation of everyday sounds, to form a deeply transcendent atmosphere rooted in a styling which walks the line between dub traditions and contemporary uk bass.

Bristol-based excess are back with a brand new series of collaborative 4-track releases hoping to forge unique and interesting productions from some of the label's favourite artists.

Launching this series, Bristol native and head honcho of the Softcore imprint, Portway, delivers "Swanee"; a fierce, driving track merging solid electro grooves with swarming low end pressure that’s ripe and ready for the dance.

Spanning 140, half-time jungle and leftfield bass XS001 sees excess live up to their "anybpm" mantra.

With an impressive backlog of releases on Out of Sorts, childsplay, Shubzin, CAROUSE, Belek Records, Jerry Horny, Hyperdome Records, Hang Tough, Angels Gun Club and his own imprint Meld Records, mod-r has developed outstanding technical abilities allowing him to produce tracks spanning electro, breaks, jungle and percussive styles. His EP on Gimme A Break Records broadens the Aberdeen-based producer’s repertoire further by exploring the recently revived UK Garage/Breaks crossover with Obatalla.

Following our discussions with Beth Alana and Nova Cheq we have decided to donate all proceeds from the compilation to the K41 Community Fund. 

This is a project initiated by the team at the Kyiv based cultural institution ∄ with the aim to provide financial, humanitarian and logistical support to the musical and cultural community that has been facing life-threatening challenges since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Compliments is a non-binary dance music producer from Huddersfield, based in London. Their work is heavily influenced by the percussive UK styles of jungle, garage and bassline, with a pinch of nü-metal’s distortion and adolescent energy thrown in for good measure.

Tomgirl, their newest release on Mantissa, showcases these stylistic influences across four tracks that move between wonky 4/4 techno, amen-heavy jungle, spacey 140 and swampy chugging house, playing with the idea of floating somewhere between masculinity and femininity, hard and soft.

After experimenting with samples of their own voice on their debut album ‘The place where my voice should be’ (self-released in March 2022), the EP builds on this technique to create eerie atmospherics and strange rhythms in a more club-focused and dance floor orientated zone.

Tomgirl is topped off with a remix by Bristol’s Bex, channeling a potent strain of bassy, stepping techno that her productions and DJ sets have become famous for.

Off Beat return with their third release - a mind-bending three-tracker from label-head Ryvahl.

Kicking things off is title track ‘Protopattern' - an off-the-wall sub-bass nose and chest tickler with heavy, scattered drums that are modulated to destruction.

'Send Signal' continues in the same vein with more of the classic sound design of Ryvahl’s previous work. Swift, choppy, UK sounds combine with juke hits, drum machines and dingy reverbs to expand the stereo field into a 4D landscape.

Closing out the release is the playful 'Blacklight'. A drum tool that would appeal to fans of Pearson Sound and early Night Slugs records. Big tip!
