As part of RA2122, our ongoing celebration of 21 years of club culture, we'll be featuring some of our favourite DJs from around the world, highlighting the parties or clubs most important to their lives in dance music. 

The first time we featured DJ Nobu on the RA Podcast, over ten years ago, we called him "one of Japan's best DJs." In hindsight, i think we can all agree that the country qualifier is no longer necessary: he's one of the world's best DJs, bar none. An absolute master at curating and mixing techno, Nobu has helped to inspire a Japanese school of techno that is psychedelic, hypnotic and often very pretty, without losing the genre's oomph or edge. And he's more popular than ever around the world, playing some of the best parties and clubs in pretty much any country or city you could name.

But DJ Nobu's roots and heart are close to home. Frustrated with techno in the Japanese capitol, he created his own party in his neighbouring hometown, Chiba, where nightlife was less pretentious and the vibe was a little looser. Future Terror quickly became known as one of Japan's premiere techno parties, and paved the way not only for Nobu himself, but many other Japanese DJs who Nobu and his later partner Haruka gave the chance to shine. The party also recently celebrated its landmark 20th anniversary with its first-ever party in London.

This mix is a direct tribute and encapsulation of Future Terror, what Nobu calls a "condensed story" of the series focusing on the more outré elements at the fore—an "awareness of techno" with plenty of more leftfield tracks thrown in. What follows might be a little gentler than you'd expect from Nobu, but it's all top-tier techno mixed with an expert hand.

Autumn shrouded the streets of the Eastern capital in gold color, dyed with crimson Imperial gardens, turning them into even larger treasuries, filled with untold riches and also lit the ceremonial bonfires of the red maples, which were flashing with a bright, ritual flames...Opening the window of his studio, Mamazu San looked thoughtfully at the silhouette of Fuji, towering above the entire island of Honshu, like a cosmic mandala with the center - Meru...The wind picked up his thoughts and carried him through the spaces by the time loops then come back and bring lost folklore elements, which will be folded into the mosaic of the musical concept: World-electronic music...Without even noticing it, in that meditation he plunged into the tropical dimensions, filled with light and life, returning from which, remembering everything in the smallest detais, he recorded the special mix for Amateur Exotic...

Fuan e Kitai - Music from far east, via Kuroshio Current, to fictional South America 

In Japanese “Fuan” means impatience and “Kitai” anticipation, reflecting Dj Shhhhh’s emotional state when he made this mix just before going for the first time to Brasil &amp; South America. It meant a lot to him since he had been researching music from this continent for more than 15 years. Noticing that the new generation brought up with electronic music was completely disconnected from Folk music he took on this mission to create a bridge between these different universes. He found an echo in the current south american music scene and since then has been releasing and bringing to Japan these new artists. For him in spite of looking opposite folk and electronic music share the same elements settled in traditional knowledge of how music makes the human nature vibrate.

Emize is a psytrance project of the 50% Egyptian 50% Italian DJ/Producer.

He stepped into the world of music when he was 7 years old, studying piano, violin and trombone. At the age of 12 he formed his first band, followed by other mainly noise/post-rock oriented projects. Being a great lover of undergound culture, he enjoyed a bunch of different styles ranging from psychedelic rock to drum'n'bass. But only after his arrival to Spain he discovered the hypnotizing world of Psy-Trance and has completely fallen in love with this culture.

Shortly afterwards he started DJing, throwing solid night-time sessions. His sets are based on the darker side of psytrance, mainly forest, with heavy basslines and multilayered atmospheres. On the decks he aims at losing the dancers into a holographic world of next-level mind-altering sounds and heavy psychedelic settings, filled up with deep feelings from the shadowy woodlands.

At the moment he is focused on music production, looking for his own sound in the freaky world of Sound Synthesis and building a Live Set.

Emize has been part of Spanish label Maharetta Records and Madrid based psytrance collective Cthulhu Tribe while now he is a memeber of Gloom Music label.
