Nightingale... A song that explores desire, yearning and the fear of taking a chance on forbidden love.

‘Nightingale’ is the follow up single to 'Here I Go' which has received fantastic reviews in recent months. In 'Here I Go' our main character was left wondering if she should leave a dangerous relationship. In 'Nightingale' she falls in love with someone else, from a distance, watching her, listening to her sing and hoping to make a change.  

They worked with director Carrie Southall to create a visually rich portrayal of the song. Using black and white footage to represent the controlled, outward front we can all show, when hiding our true selves, and full colour scenes to depict the inner feelings and expression of how she truly feels. Influenced by the work of Edith Piaf and Twin Peaks, Emma wanted to incorporate the sense of watching and longing and feeling that meeting the right person, can bring a person to life if you are brave enough to take a chance.  

Their EP 'Here I Go' was recorded at Shonk Studios, Oxford with producer Jimmy Hetherington.

Nightingale

. ‘Treacle Well’ is a step away from the imaginary world of Yolanda and uses only vocals and drums to create a layered world of vocals and beats. The song is about a fear of failure and the concept of ‘falling down the rabbit hole’ and the sensation of feeling panicked and overwhelmed by your dreams. Using Oxford and ‘Alice in Wonderland’ as inspiration, the video also attempts to create this sense of unease and confusion.

‘Love Is Not A Choice’ is the first single from their next EP, due out in the Autumn. It explores the concept of self-acceptance; a song for those who fear judgement and intolerance. The aim is that this song is a continuation of the story from “Nightingale’ a song about secret love. This song is intended to be a celebration of queer love in all its forms, with a Latin rhythm and feel, building to a crescendo with layered vocals to celebrate the message that love is love.

Love Is Not A Choice

Morire, released on the 16th March 2023, is an Italian word which directly translates as ‘to die and fade.’ The song, therefore explores how our vices can be the very thing which causes someone to fade away and lose who they truly are; the listener is encouraged to see this issue through the viewpoint of the partner of someone who is drowning and disappearing in their own vices. Recorded in Oxfordshire at Shonk Studios, the song includes dark, Morricone style guitars with mariachi trumpets to add to the drama, played by Steve Preston.

Horizon Hunting

A song from the perspective of a woman trapped in a dangerous relationship. Should she stay with her dangerous partner or leave everything she knows.

They create emotive, 1950’s-Flamenco inspired guitar with layered loops and complex, harmonious vocals in an evocative, cinematic soundscape. Atmospheric, dramatic and a little bit dark, with percussive, trip-hop inspired drums and strong, intricate melodies at the heart of it all.

Come along to watch them weave in and out of vocal loops full of harmonies and haunting melodies. Imagine yourself on a desert plain in Mexico, somewhere in the past. Listen to the tales of Yolanda and all will be revealed.
