There we are : Two years have passed already again since the last single by Jazzanova, 
"I Human".

"Never change a winning team"  is the name of the formula for success with the current coup "Now There Is We". Once again Paul Randolph takes care of vocal business and wrote lyrics that are as uplifting as only he can provide. The outcome is a infectious hybrid of vocal house and soulful pop. When Randolph repeats the line "There was me, now there is we, I'll never go back..." at the climax of the song, you notice that he's not only celebrating a romantic triumph, but also the community spirit of a well-functioning band, well maybe even of a party in sheer harmony. 

The trademark of the track though is the ultra deep bass line – along the sophisticated live drum programming – fitting every house-set perfectly.  Therefore you get – that's how service orientated Sonar Kollektiv is – the instrumental version on the flipside of this illustrious 10inch of vinyl.

This was going to be the flip side of my Odyssey edit which will see the light of day very shortly on a Cosmic Boogie 12 but we've decided to give it away for a couple of reasons (another of my recent edits will now feature on the flip side). Firstly Harvey released an edit of this last year on Pacific Beach Records (and to own it will cost you a whopping $18!) but more importantly, I hit 400,000 plays this week on SoundCloud so I wanted something special to give away.

Doc Severinsen - I Wanna Be With You (Leftside Wobble Edit)

It was great to witness the outpouring of love and respect for Gil Scott-Heron over the weekend. 

A true innovator and inspiration to so many, I wanted something to play out over the weekend and came across this forgotten classic whilst digging through the collection.

Even though it has very little to do with Gil Scott-Herons usual production style being a house track (produced by Paul Waller) built on a selection of samples from classic records including Mr Fingers 'Can You Feel It', 808 State's "Pacific State' and vocal snippets from First Choice's "Let No Man Put Asunder', there's a rawness to the production that's totally fitting to Gil Scott-Herons apocalyptic tale.

I put this together for this Friday's set at Stretch Disco in Manchester - http://tinyurl.com/63wu6na - mainly because over the years this has become firm favourite with certain Manchester clubbers. I realise that I'm stepping down a well trodden path with this but I've never had a problem with re-editing classics as long as I feel I'm bringing something new to the party. 

In recent years most people have become familiar with either the classic Larry Levan mix, the wonky dubbed out Hot Coins (Red Rack'em) version, or the stompy remake by Luke Unabomber. This edit is based on the original mix (which is still my favourite version of the track) and features some of the best piano/hammond interaction I've heard on a club record. It still brings a smile to my face that a gospel record has become such a big track amongst the 'chemically influenced', but it's the raw spirituality of it's groove that makes it so uplifting.

Incidentally the management of Band On The Wall have kindly given me an unlimited £5 concession list for Stretch Disco this friday. I realised last week that it's 10 years since I started DJing and producing under the Leftside Wobble moniker and it also so happened that one of the inspirations for getting back into music 10 years ago was celebrating his 50th this weekend. So a revival of the Dub Disco Deli mix series seemed apt for the occasion as that was always the series of mixes that stayed most true to the LW unbounded by genres ethos. Really enjoyed putting this one together, hope you dig it too. x

Dub Disco Deli (Anniversary Edition) - 2hr DJ mix

A couple of things this week made me revisit this edit. Firstly Greg Wilson featured it in a 'Festival Anthems' selection he recently uploaded to Mixcloud - http://tinyurl.com/d6yvsbc - and secondly it was featured in the closing scene and credits to this weeks episode of Mad Men. The combined effect meant that a fair few people have been downloading the version I uploaded here 3 years ago (which was also only available as a low quality MP3), so I thought it apt to give it a 'spit and polish' and make a remastered WAV version available for download. 

Even if you downloaded my original version you should grab this too as the remaster kicks like the proverbial mule!  :)

This ones all about the rhythm track overdubs and subtle filtering. Sometimes an edit needs a very light touch and with a track so perfect this is certainly the case here.
