It's already been a decade since J Dilla — the mercurial producer and rapper from Detroit — passed away and his posthumously completed album, The Shining, saw the light of day on BBE Records. 

As they prepare to release the project on 7" for the first time, we're extremely honoured to get our hands on a never-before-heard mixtape by the master himself. Made some time between mid-1999 and early 2000, it's a fly-on-the-wall showing of what Jay Dee had blaring out of his speakers while on the sofa or by the MPC.

Thoroughly impressed with @HOMESHAKE's new record Helium, we asked if he’d make us a mix. Mashing up Leonard Nimoy’s Star Trek-inspired A Visit To A Sad Planet with music from the likes of Prince, Tirzah and Yves Tumor, it’s a weird but wonderfully chill piece of work. Asked to describe his dreamy creation, Peter played the whole thing down, telling us to expect, “mostly songs with piano in them, and some others to tie it all together”. You’ll love it.

For the third instalment of “Cowboys And The Sounds Of,” an Editorial mix series from longtime contributor @napmusick , we’re treated to the sounds of sad country music and trains passing by. The combination is unexpectedly heart-wrenching, as if the sound of trains bring us back to an era of long goodbyes and far distances. Three years in the making, Rincon’s two hour collection of cosmic country and folk is a testament to the enduring heartbreak and beauty of the genre. 

Daniel Rincon makes music under the moniker @napmusick ,  is one half of Ambein Baby and La Fe, and runs an experimental electronic label @sonidoisla out of Montreal.
