Kerb Staller release their new single ‘Tell Lies’ today, it is the first to be release through Skint Records. Kerb Staller is the combination of house and techno behemoths Matt Tolfrey, jozif, and revered vocalist and songwriter DNCN; the three forces together forming a unique identity all of their own.

For anyone unfamiliar with the trio, ’Tell Lies’ is a blistering introduction. DNCN’s inimitable vocals create an instant impact, while the trippy production combines elements of house with a driving, live bass and squelching synths.

Kerb Staller say: “Tell Lies is our first release on Skint, as a group, and marks the start of a big year for Kerb Staller. The record, in its essence, describes how much we are manipulated by the media, and how this misinformation is used as a weapon. We’re not expecting Tell Lies to bring the system crashing down any time soon, but it felt better to say something, than say nothing at all.”

The band are currently spread between London (Matt), New York (jozif) and Manchester (DNCN). In 2014, Matt and jozif , both established figures of the underground, were sharing a studio in east London. Matt had paid his dues as resident at Nottingham's legendary Bomb club, and from 2005 his Leftroom label had been at the heart of the house/techno scene, releasing legends from Maceo Plex to Laura Jones to DJ Bone. Londoner jozif has released music on connoisseurs' labels like Crosstown Rebels, Infiné and Wolf & Lamb, quickly attracting the attention of heroes like Andrew Weatherall and fabric resident Craig Richards, going on to set up the Fist Or Finger imprint up with Richards.

Rather than choosing the predictable route of collaborations when sharing a studio, Matt and jozif instead chose to jam. The results, far from a clutch of tech-house bangers or disco club classics, are much funkier, much more live. It was during these jam sessions that DNCN was brought into the fold - known for his own house and techno productions, his chaotic disco-punk band Silverclub as well as writing and singing with the likes of Maceo Plex.

The laconic Manchester-born, Rochdale-raised DNCN has been playing the guitar from the age of ten, and in his teens he was already jamming “stuff that tried to sound like the Chemical Brothers but in band form”. His meandering musical career has so far seen him getting props and encour- agement from local figures like deep electronica legend Bola and early 00s electro-indie one-man- band Jim Noir, and his electronic productions ran in parallel with trying to navigate Silverclub through the world of A&Rs and artist development, and writing and singing for Maceo Plex.

As well as a remix from Matthew Dear’s techno alter-ego ‘Audion’, ‘Tell Lies’ has also been given the dub treatment by each of the three members of the band.

The single is out now via Skint Records, with further new music to be announced soon. Kerb Staller will be performing live throughout 2018, watch this space for further details.
