I put myself in the shoes of so many young males out there - crumbled by lust and led to taking advantage of clueless women.

One picture can tell a story 500 words can.

Heavy with memories, that hit you in an instant man,
I guess that's why they call it Insta-gram.

Like,
Have you ever felt a rise in emotion, 
staring at a picture, as you go through the motions. 
An explosion of sadness after you've lost someone or submersion in an ocean
of joy.
You don't breathe, the notion
of time is frozen... 

You just stare at it. 
It's a token..

Not only sentimental,
but supplemental to your life's story.

Right now I'm looking at a picture of me,
picturing me in 4 years' time looking back at this picture of me
smiling at how far I've come as I graduate from Uni.

The funny thing is

At the same time, I'm looking at the same picture of me, picturing me 4 years back.
School uniform and snapback
at the age of 14, 
thinking I'd have a beard by 2014

But that was nowhere to be seen..

What I'm tryna say is, a picture is more than just a still image.
You can grimace
at that embarrassing picture (puzzled) and in (horror) but a it's piece of a never ending (jigsaw)
of what we've done and (saw).

It's alive.
And the meanings change with time..

One picture led me to write these rhymes

It just makes me wonder man,
even Alice in Wonderland said "what is the use of a book without pictures?"

You could read a thousand page novel, 
but above all
the pictures in your head bring it to life.

You could tell a story with a rap on a track,
but what's the use if nobody can picture that?

I'll say it again..
A picture's more than just an image.

It brings individuality to the walls in your room.
Its the first time parents lay eyes on their child in the womb,
And the only reason you've still got that picture of your ex, I presume
is cos it's a piece of you.

But I can get basic,
Let's face it,
your pictures get you follow backs on twitter,

Your pictures can make strangers laugh, it can make them bitter.

Pictures are ammunition.
Forget my camera megapixels,
cos when I shoot it's like a pistol..

"Ah fam. Beg you chill? 
Delete that, it's a slip still"

Imagine a world without images,
picture this..

Television wouldn't exist,
What the hell is a Twitter adlib?

You can say goodbye to the word selfie
in the Dictionary,
and there'd be no imagery
to fuel creativity.
It's kinda scary..
A world without visionaries.

Imaginations eroding over time.
Criminals getting away with crime,

You'd walk past family on the street and not recognise a face,
cos it can't be traced back to a picture..

No baby photos,
Wedding or holiday photos,
And no photos of loved ones that you've lost,

Nothing to take you back.
Now picture that..

I said

Renaissance

Welcome to my DEBUT spoken word EP, Russian Roulette. I wish to take you on a journey of; lust, love, faith, gender and power. Then bring to light socially "awkward" issues such as domestic violence and depression, from a fresh and gripping angle. Featuring some of the brightest, up and coming artists and producers from London, coming together to create art with a meaning.

Every track is my spin on songs from Beyonce's timeless 'I Am.. Sasha Fierce' album, to form a seamless and (hopefully) captivating plot; each track a different part of the story-line, which the short film will tie together - that's right! Russian Roulette will be accompanied by a short film to be released in October!

The project is titled 'Russian Roulette' to highlight how dangerous taking a chance on love can be. For many people, their experience of love has been little different to sitting down, placing a bullet in one of the chambers in a revolver before spinning it and pointing the barrel at their temple.

This is so much more than just an EP, it's a collaboration. Of youth, talent.. art. You can also find a collection of artwork from some of my favourite illustrators, who have interpreted some of the themes addressed in Russian Roulette - on www.emmanuelspeaks.com

This is undoubtedly my biggest experiment to date. I believe in challenging conventions and pushing the boundaries of spoken word poetry and storytelling.

This EP isn't about me, it's about you. Anyone who's ever loved, lost, struggled mentally or had to endure any sort of conflict within themselves or abuse by anyone they love. Understand the journey. With many biblical references throughout and a strong focus on continuity, this is my most detailed project yet. It's taken most of this year to put together and I just hope you catch everything and enjoy listening while you wait on the film.
