To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Marmion’s seminal classic Schöneberg, Superstition are releasing a new 21-track collection of the best remixes over the last three decades, including two brand new versions from Chris Zippel and DJ T., the remix we have on offer here upfront.

If there were to be a compilation celebrating the golden era of European techno, Schöneberg would arguably be the opening track. The most famous cut that came out of Mijk van Dijk and Marcos López’s project Marmion, Schöneberg is perhaps the purest form of what the clubs and raves of Berlin sounded like in the early 90s, and stands as one of the most revered and fondly remembered tracks of all time.

Mijk van Djik and Marcos Lopez formed Marmion after meeting while studying at the FU Berlin, and began Djing together at clubs across the city. It was from their sets that the seed for  Schöneberg was sown, as they tried to find a balance between the techno and trance sounds that dominated the clubs. It was an era ripe for experimentation, and for cross-pollination between genres, as van Djik recalls: "Coldcut was doing pop, Kevin Saunderson was playing up and down all the floors, everything fit. I didn't feel like I had to limit myself or focus on one style”.

Schöneberg was recorded in a single session, and though they returned to it several times afterwards, they never felt they improved on that first creative burst. Released as part of the Berlin E.P. back in 1993, it was heavily championed by influential figures like Tony De Vit and became of the defining anthems of the 90s.

Over the years it has been remixed a huge number of times, by a wide range of artists. Now, to celebrate 30 years since its original release, Superstition have collected the best of the remixes – from artists like DJ Hell, John Acquaviva Remix, Der Dritte Raum, Tim Engelhardt and Donnacha Costello – presented here with two brand new remixes from DJ. T and Chris Zippel, both of whom do a sterling job of putting their own unique spin one this stone-cold classic.

Each track is driven by drums at the highest grade—rugged, weighty basslines locking in with sci-fi warped FX, keeping the floor in constant motion. Trippy vocal cuts thread through the grooves, getting deep into our heads and sending minds off into nearby dimensions. And that’s just the a-side.

Flip it over and Bongo Loco comes rolling in—a true cruiser. Built around a huge breakdown of layered bongos, it kicks back in with the kind of chest-rattling low end that have become Body Clinic’s signature. It’s the moment where hands shoot in the air, the rhythm carrying you further into the night. On b2, My Mate Dave shifts gears again—jumping off the old-school tech foundations and landing closer to the progressive sound we know BC for. It’s a peak-time anthem through and through.

Oliver Lieb's “Subraumstimulation” is back as a remastered edition. First released in 1994, the record is one of the finest works in German techno history and has lost absolutely none of its power over the years. The new version gives it a modern feel without losing any of the raw drive that made it so memorable.

Le Monkey arrives to the LAMP Family and PUZL Records from deep space filled with sonic vibrations from his travels through countless galaxies. He has chronicled his long journey in the form of ‘Substance Matinale’ an epic 9 track collection of pulsating electronic music. 

Each track weaves its way into the next guiding the listener on an interstellar expedition through the boundless realm of space. With every passing beat and progressive synthesis of sound Le Monkey brings us closer to the most distant solar systems, planets and stars.

Substance Matinale will be the first album in a series of releases from Le Monkey that PUZL Records will help to reveal. This is only the introduction to the project as it begins to evolve into the early stages of a live performance that will translate this auditory narrative on a much larger scale.

LAMP aka The Los Angeles Music Project is a music collective at its core and comprised of a blog, record label, artist management group and event production service. This EP has Bongbeck's breakbeat facette meet the creative tabula rasa of Braunholz. With an apocalyptic vibe provided by Braunholz and an eerie break-beat finish by Bongbeck, "The Sinner" EP opens with a subliminal, still destructive force. Bongbeck lets this force break free with his own interpretation of that gloom, actively alternating between different rhythmic moods. "Broken" plays out the EP, bringing old school instruments and an analogue taste to the table.
