Who We Are weaves through rhythmic deep house with a wild and primal progression. Elements of different cultures are weaved throughout including bongos, chants, throat singing, didgeridoos, hang drums and native kookaburras. The first drop hits with foghorns and a warm rolling bass and moves to a middle section of raw, euphoric vocals. The second drop hits a little harder and will have you making that face... you know the one =)

This track is the first of Emmotica's releases that she has used to open her sets with group fire acts. As a fire performer herself; it was curated with this intention. Who We Are has since circled it's way around the fire community - recently featuring in GlowFest Australia's after movie.

Who We Are - Free Download

This one is very special ✨ I was booked for an evening set and had the opportunity to play a little heavier music than usual - and absolutely loved it!

I started out the set with a track that I've recently produced - 'Who We Are'. I ran out from behind the decks and performed with fire along side these fierce warrior women. The lady energy on stage (and in the crowd) was strong and really set the scene for the rest of the set.

This set travels through a variety of world bass music, starting with some organic house, and moves through some afro-house, latin-house, some pretty melodic tunes in the middle, and ends with some chunky bass!!! The crowd were stomping up a storm and so was I 🔥

A big thank you to Initiation Festival for creating such a deeply nourishing event. There was clearly a lot of love put into this festival and it was an honour to be a part of it.

I'm excited to share this - It's an electronic world house tune that follows a story.

'Penumbra' means a space of partial illumination around a dense shadow (like an eclipse). In medical terms it is referred to as the area that surrounds a core of dead tissue following an ischaemic event like a stroke. Penumbra tissue is potentially destined to die too - but can be saved if it receives the right treatment quickly.

I chose 'Penumbra' for the name of this song and as a means to reflect on my own healing journey - which I'm sure is widely relatable. Shadow work can be terrifying and dark.. and at times, the worst outcome can feel inevitable. And sometimes.. it may be... 
And sometimes, when the shadow is held up to the light, we may find an area of vulnerability, of Penumbra. The partial light around or next to the dark. This area, when understood and held correctly, can heal - despite all expectation and likelihood that it wouldn't. And, if given what it needs at the right time, can survive and even learn to dance ✨

'Finding Ground' is a term that my loved ones and I use to communicate when we needed just that. This means taking an intentional moment to acknowledge an inner (or outer) storm and to dig deep to find what is needed to feel grounded when things feel chaotic and up in the air.

The song starts with what I usually need, something warm and nourishing. A reminder of the beauty in the world and a moment to connect to my people and the earth. Usually once feeling warm, safe and connected, there's space to process and move whatever it is that needs to be moved... be that by dancing like a crazy jaguar lady, stomping till my knees hurt, or rolling around in the grass rocking a solid bass face. The first drop in this song is for just that.. and the second drop, even more so. 

I hope that this song helps others find some ground during their storms.. and it helps you move whatever it is that may need to be moved.

Initiation Festival 2024 Journey Set - World Bass, House, Drum and Bass, Tech-House

Emmotica is an Australian mutli-genre music producer, DJ and fire performer known for pulling crowds with her primal, high-energy bass, tribal chants and driving rhythms. Emmotica doesn’t just stay behind the decks - she’ s a flow-state huntress; often dancing with the crowd and spinning fire between mixing tracks. Her sets weave through rhythmic deep house, bass house, tech house, drum and bass and everything in between. She draws elements from many cultures all around the world into a journey through music, dance and fire.

The tracks that she produces tell deep, relatable stories, and are curated with the intention to dance and perform fire. She’s released music with the Canadian label Wildfire Recordings and has played at iconic festivals including Rabbits Eat Lettuce, Initiation Festival, Wizards of Kingston, and events with Love Camp (Jungle Love & Bohemian Beatfreaks), Misheen Productions, the Wonky Queenslander & Native Productions.

Sometimes, it’s just her - one woman, the music, and her fire, pulling the crowd into the moment. Other times, she builds something even bigger, collaborating with aerialists, fire dancers, and other performers to create a full-scale spectacle. Whether it’s a solo act or a multi-artist experience, every set is immersive, raw and pulls a crowd from every corner of the festival. An Emmotica set is a whole experience, deeply personal and wildly expansive - best enjoyed loud and in the forest!
