For the second edition of our regular night at Golden Pudel Club in Hamburg we invited supreme selector, label boss and talented musician Dana Ruh. This back-to-back warm-up set the tone before the club hit full swing. Together we laid down a slow-burning selection of dubbed-out house and personal warm-up favourites for 3 hours, until Dana took over.

this mix is a tribute to overdub- a greek fanzine from the late 90’s  and early 00’s. 
Just before Internet was fully commercialised, the creatures of the underground scene could find it in specific comic, record and book stores and dig into the local and international experimentations of the time.  

All tracks come from artists that are briefly or more thoroughly mentioned on different issues of overdub. Christos Karras,  the music aficionado and editor in chief of the fanzine, initially had to send via post, introduction letters  to artists he admired, and receive tracks on cd or tape, months later, for a music compilation that he curated for every issue. Later on, email took over, Napster took over, and gradually overdub lost its precious meaning…Hopefully for some more than a few, independent music still matters. Special thanks to Aggelos Baltas for revealing to me this hidden gem.

Since 2019 they have been digging vinyls with various sounds and styles, but the main focus lays on minimal house. Les mots de Clément, pas mieux : J’ai pensé un mix progressif qui gagne doucement en intensité. C’est rare d’avoir 2h en radio pour moi donc j’aime bien l’idée de pouvoir en profiter pour dérouler quelque chose qui prend son temps et explore des styles différents. Je suis toujours les nouveautés donc j’essaye de souvent en intégrer dans mes mixes, celui ci ne fait pas exception. On trouve une alternance entre morceaux clubs et des sons plus dub, expérimentaux et planants. Je ne m'aventurerais pas à lister chacun des styles présents car j’aime bien l’idée de se laisser cueillir. C’est un mix de touriste qui n’a pas peur de visiter les ruelles sombres autant que les quartiers populaires !

Japanese sensation Mayurashka has arrived on Rhythm Section International !
We’ve long been fans of her hypnotic incantations that playfully subvert house and techno tropes to create wonderfully weird music that moves you.

Known for her delicate, subtly psychedelic approach to production - all subtlety is thrown out of the window on the opener, “Parents and God”. We are immediately confronted with a slamming Chicago house style beat in style of Mr Fingers at his most utilitarian. It slams, jerking in and out of tempo like Ron Hardy in beast mode.
Out of nowhere a soulful church organ arrives - at first for a brief respite - but then for an extended solo, which gives way to an 80s electro style breakdown before reverting back to form. It shouldn’t work, but somehow it does - to a dizzying extent - and heirin lies Mayurashka’s magic: a blatant disregard for norms and a deft touch that makes the unorthodox so compelling.

“Notango" takes another big left turn - sitting somewhere between tribal seance and rain dance, it’s mostly organic drums and otherworldly sound effects that combine to drag us deeper into the wormhole before “ Vat Murmur” takes us back into the light with its uptempo disco energy and giving way to heavy chugging bass. This one is equally for fans of idjut boys and Larry Levan.

The Ep rounds off with the title track “ LSI dreaming” - to try and describe it is almost impossible, but let’s say it starts of with a mid 2000s Perlon-era tech house energy before things quickly escalate beyond all recognition and then just hover with lysergic intensity. If I ever closed panorama bar, this is the track I’d end with.
