didn't feel anything in the way of inspiration in the beginning, but after i finally got my hands on Traktor Pro 2 that changed. mostly, it helped me change the way i approached the process. did lose some time trying to route audio between Traktor & FL Studio while keeping the signal path 100% digital, but with the help of the Jack Router (ASIO) i found a functional arrangement. think there might be some MIDI Sync hiccups in a couple of places. due to setup, the song was played in real time while being rendered to the hard drive. don't know if that helped the lofi effects any. starting to think there's actually 2 different songs mashed together in the track. might try splitting it into 2 sometime after the judging phase is over. levels are still an issue in places. some things seemed loud in headphones but quiet in the car (or cellphone in some situations). definitely a track i'll want to work on more after all hardware & software issues i'm facing are ironed out. just glad i had enough processing power for a realtime mixdown. 


ACK! just noticed some automation was missing. no choice but to let it ride at this point.

Dirty Bass Adventure

have so many versions wasn't sure which was the correct mix. this one sounded close enough after dropping tempo. been holding this one back while waiting for new ideas to expand the original theme, which have yet to arrive. starting to get some new ideas that suggest a different (darker) theme. if it helps with completion of the song i welcome it.

Be Mine Tonight (130 Mix)

wasn't sure about direction at first, but gradually went towards a high energy feeling 140 bpm remix. knew that i wanted to expand the use of the breakbeat in the track, but had different initial ideas about how to do it. decided that changing the guitar and bass track to synths would help with moving the song in a different direction. finding a new bass was relatively easy, but the guitar was a different story. kept the choir during the chorus since i liked the way it worked with the remix. added some arp sequences to create a feeling of variation in the track. mixdown phase was cut short due to time constraints. started a new project to finish the missed steps for personal satisfaction (as well as have something cleaned up to play for friends).

didn't beat the deadline  but decided to share segments from the scratchpad. might have let the condition of the source material frustrate me a little too much.

Lucca - Japan Sugar (Emp-unit Remix)

despite my efforts this remix managed to remain simple. hoping that it can retain interest regardless of that fact. tools used were FL Studio, Traktor and the Jack Audio Connection Kit.

80s Or 90s?

to the Hoovers once again.  started remix with the words deep & funky electro house in mind. eventually wound up going in the direction represented here. like the ideas used in this remix, just not sure how many of them belong together. ran into trouble converting low frequencies of bassline into mono. like that the "lofi" high frequency stereo effect survived on deep bass instrument that appears during second half of main vocals. might need to make the main bass slightly thinner so the deep bass stands out more. that. or cut the kicks out of the mix during those measures.

Rack Extension Experiment 01

just a soundbite to demonstrate the direction i started going in with my remix. didn't have a bassline i liked until there was 1 day left. was scrambling to finish in time, but lost all my steam after double checking deadline at Burn Studios website. lunchtime in Casablanca!?!? awww, nut bunnies. didn't submit entry to contest but still wanted to share.
