'OLD WARDROBE’ mixtapes 

September 2006 was beautiful - the temperature was still high enough to open a window and autumn was still shimmering with all the colours of the rainbow when the idea popped into JSM's Rootskontrolla head to start recording periodically short 'mixtapes' with 10-20 of his favourite tunes at the time. 

We were getting ready to fire up the first version of our soundsystem, so in a room on the first floor of a block of flats on the southern outskirts of Warsaw, the conditions were perfect (hehe) to fire up the recording in the evening after work and rummage through the collection.

First listenings, testing Jah Tubbys new at the time 3way preamp, which arrived in hand luggage straight from north London, and selection that slowly crystallised the Roots Revival Soundsystem selection. After a couple of recordings and sharing them on local online discussion site, the topic developed to the point where other selectors and vinyl collectors started to post if they could record a short set. Over time, mixes from various friendly selectors arrived - and so the series called ‘Old Wardrobe.'

And so we present to you another series of mixes from the past, which will regularly appear on our channels! As well as Roots Revival flying into space soon, we also occasionally travel back in time and do a little digging here and there. More music!

Emperorfari Sound System was created by Scee Naphtali in 2006, after finishing from 22years in a family owned business, he had time on to finally take up his passion and build a Roots Sound System with the added bonus of Scee’s late father being a Sound Engineer for Voice of Kenya & BBC, the pure sound knowledge was handed onto Scee first hand and he had been going to sound system gatherings since a very young age with his elder brothers.

We play roots & dub music derived from reggae from back in the early days on our unique sound system including many specials commonly know as “Dubplates” but we also play many pre releases and releases so people can actually go out and buy some of the tracks we play. We do not have our own studio and this is a conscious decision as we pride ourselves in mastering the art of playing a sound system and not producing the music.

This also assists in others having a roll to play in sound system culture. A collective effort from everyone is the under pinning strength of Emperorfari Sound System together with all the people who attend and support the events.

We also work with many roots singers and players of instruments who regularly play and sing live when Emperorfari is in session and also work very closely with “Roots Conference” and many other promotors.

There is various records constantly coming out on the EMPERORFARI RECORD LABEL, purchased through our online website www.emperorfari.com & all good online record shops worldwide.
