Hiraeth started out as a simple idea - a fully complextro EP, something i dreamed of doing for the longest time. 4 years later that somewhat changed.

i still wanted Hiraeth to push the boundaries of complextro, but i also wanted it to be a body of work that i am for once proud of. one I could look back at years later without regrets or dissatisfaction, one i could point people to when they ask me about my music and not have any doubts in the back of my head. and while Hiraeth is not perfect, i am confident it achieves these goals.

Hiraeth captures the last 4 years of my music journey. it is a monumental project for me, and with the amount of effort i put into it, i didn't want it to be just another EP in my discography. this is why the tracklist was revisited and extended to be an album.

this song evolved from a little project i started back in november 2019, it was an experiment where i tried to vocal chop an acapella in such a way that it would sound like it's actually saying something, eventually i came back to it and somewhere during december 2020 the main drop idea took shape

technically this might be the second finished version (or maybe even the third), the first one was nearing completion around the time luv u released but at some point i realised that i'm not happy with it in the slightest and that it does not have any redeemable qualities, it took me making one new part of the song (one you can hear at 2:59) to start replacing and rearranging other ones one by one until pretty much none that were present initially remained.

this is a prime example of sunk-cost fallacy, a good chunk of the driving force that made me want to finish this one came from the fact that i didn't want all the effort i've already put into it go to waste. in the end i'm not even sure if i'm entirely satisfied with the results, i feel like it sounds like a collection of ideas rather than a cohesive song. however i'm happy with how they sound individually, and i think this showcases some sides of my music that weren't present in my previous releases, so maybe it's not so bad, i hope you can enjoy it!

On the bright and early morning of August 12th, 2023, over 1,000 creatives began their 24-hour work session that resulted in 558 unique songs and 66 album covers. Musicians bounced out stems for each other and shared samples, visual artists scoured the Internet for fonts and graphics, and everyone excitedly buzzed about what would come of it all. The final result? 45 of the most outstanding, creative, and genuine tracks our corner of the digital world has to offer—with an equally beautiful album cover to match.

The real enrichment lies in the act of creation. A piece of art does not have to be forward-thinking or never-seen-before, nor does it have to be better than the last; it simply has to be. To create something without worry of what others might think, to have fun with your work, is one of the greatest things this world has to offer—digital or otherwise.

All proceeds from All Nighter Vol. 8 will be going to Out & Equal, an organization dedicated to workplace equality for LGBTQ+ individuals.
