When the global pandemic and lockdown resulted in Empresarios being isolated from each other,  the bredren were physically separated for months. This challenging experience brought out the best and compelled the Empresarios into new creative arrangements. The result of this experience is the four-track Warriors EP, and a new relationship was made with Don Cash who recorded additional vocals and mixed the tracks at his Connected Records studio. Empresarios mainstay Francisco “Frankie 40” Rosado is featured on each track, along with additional vocalists who add their own flex to the song.  

First up is a bilingual track with a lot of heart and soul. Joining Empresarios on this track is reggae legend, Desi Hyson, originally from the Caribbean Island of Dominica. Hyson brings decades of experience from touring and performing with The Wailers, Culture, Mojo Nya and See-I. Together, Hyson and the Empresarios create a captivating and soulful roots reggae anthem, Welcome to Puerto Rico. The lyrics brings us to the beach, reminding us of sunshine and tropical vibes, while putting La Isla del Encanto on center stage. Having a reggae legend like Hyson join the Borinqueños on this track is a dream come true for the group and their creativity shines through on this classic reggae track.

This mischievous kitty has been a long time coming and arrives in time to kick off 2024.  Prior to the inception of the Empresarios, the group’s vocalists were integral members of the renowned DMV-based Reggaeton group, MAFU Crew.  As reggaetón and perreo go global, it's only fitting that these seasoned vocalists return to their roots and bring forth a refined fusion of experience and innovation in their newest release, "Gatita Mala." 

Gatita Mala is a love song cautioning against that irresistibly tempting person.  The track’s vocals are expertly lead by Frankie Rosado who’s laid back swagger effortlessly embraces the reggaetón rhythm. Frankie’s lyrics are full of clever innuendos and dives into realms of intimacy and indulgence, such as the flirtatious allure of getting adventurous after smoking some krippy.  Felix “El Doble” Perez comes in with the slick verse to seal the deal, complementing his vocal partner smoothly. The long-time collaborators’ voices meld seamlessly, creating a melodic masterpiece. 

In addition to the original reggaeton rendition of the track, the Empresarios also offer a Downtempo Version and a remix by Dr. Diubell.  The original's horns and piano take center stage in the Downtempo Version, as the hip-hop beats make way for a more stripped-down percussive arrangement, taking the track to afterhours territory. The final track included is for the Salseros, the Dr. Diubell Remix includes lively horns in the Salsa version of this infectious track. With the various iterations of Gatita Mala, the Empresarios once again transcend genres and bring their Tropicaliente flair to this strong single.

The Empresarios are finishing off a great year where they played the Joshua Tree Music Festival, the Funk Parade in Washington, DC in addition to touring California and the East Coast. However their biggest accomplishment of 2016 was launching their own independent record label Empresarios Musica.  After releasing three remix EPs, the Empresarios are finishing strong with The Vibes Remixed album.

In addition to the twelve amazing remixes already released, The Vibes Remixed album features a few brand new exclusive remixes that cannot be found anywhere else. First up is Stereo 77's remix of Pa' La Calle and he does just that, taking it to the street!  Stereo 77 is originally from Puerto Rico and now resides in Orlando, Florida where he is a regular on the club circuit. You can hear his experience as a club DJj loud and clear with electro-synth stabs and pulsing bass throughout his future house remix.

Next up is another hot remix of Pa' La Calle, but this time by Greek production duo Funkin' Basstards who take the original in a different direction altogether. Fans of funky breaks are going to love this remix as the Funkin' Basstards beef up the original with some chunky breakbeats, break downs and heavy bass lines. This one will be a favorite with DJs and radio jockeys looking to add some fresh and funky Latin breaks to the mix.

The final new remix on this album will make you very happy, it is Bedside's tropical house remix of Alegria.  Bedside are a production duo from Miami and you can hear that South Florida vibe in their remix! They have added live instrumentation to great effect, and the horns are amazing. This deep house groove is perfect for pool parties and late nights, oozing with Miami Beach sexiness.

In addition to these three new remixes, The Vibes Remixed album includes the previously released remixes which have been making waves around the world. The New Gold Standard 2 Remixed EP 2 is the second in a series of releases of remixes from the Fort Knox Recordings’ 2009 hit compilation, The New Gold Standard 2. This new release features 4 freshly-minted remixes of Empresarios, and Nappy Riddem.

The New Gold Standard 2 Remixed EP 2 showcases stellar remixes of the new roster additions to Fort Knox Recordings.

Nappy Riddem, the new super group featuring Fort Knox Recordings stalwarts Rex Riddem and Mustafa Akbar, along side Thievery Corporation live-band bassist, Ashish “Hash” Vyas, show the breadth of their new sound with “One World Sovereignty”, featuring Asheru (Unspoken Heard, “The Boondocks Theme”). We grabbed Bay Area Beat Doctor, J.Boogie, to add his signature dubby house flavor to “One World Sovereignty”. With a glitchy bassline, and dub fx reminiscent of Mad Professor, J.Boogie presents this song in a totally different light.

Empresarios is a group co-formed by Javier Miranda, a Fort Knox Five and See-I collaborator. They make their debut with two sizzlers. “Sabor Tropical,” featuring the vocal stylings of Francisco Rosado and Felix Perez, crosses the boundaries of Latin funk and reggaeton while “Cumbia” drives further south with a red-hot Latin trip-hop groove. Nickodemus of Turntables on the Hudson fame, reworked “Cumbia” into a dizzy latin funk bomb. With a massive kick drum, and a shuffling dub beat, this will be a tune for any beat aficionado. On “Sabor Tropical,” we had two amazing remixes turned in. The first from DJ Sabo, gives “Sabor Tropical” a funky latin house feel. It features a stunning breakdown followed by a lovely keyboard solo by Argentinian musician, Dario Boente. For the second remix, Nappy Riddem handed us a breakbeat driven carnival styled rework. It features the extra vocal stylings of Mustafa Akbar, along with a rumbling bassline, and a massive shuffling beat.

With sounds ranging from trip hop to hip-hop, latin to reggaeton, and some serious funk & soul thrown in, The New Gold Standard 2 Remixed EP 2 raises the bar once again, showcasing all the talented artists on Fort Knox Recordings.

The Empresarios have had a busy year in the studio making new music and a bunch of exciting videos.  The group plans to end the year strong with the Cambumbeo Remix EP, which includes four banging remixes of Empresarios originals.  This release is a truly global effort as the Empresarios tapped some of their favorite remixers around the world.  Austrian legend Shantisan has remixed the title track, while Greek DJ Inko, Australian Omegaman and Orlando, Florida based Stereo 77 all reworked Con Las Manos Arriba.  Prepare to take a musical journey that starts in the Caribbean and ends in the hottest nightclubs and dancehalls imaginable. The kings of late night cool have arrived.

Noche De Cambumbeo has been reworked by Shantisan into a very smooth groove that will get even the most stubborn heads nodding.  The steady booming bassline is perfectly suited for the floating melodica, crisp percussion and intricate guitar lines.  You can hear Shantisan's deep well of experience come shining through on this Tropicaliente lounge burner.  Next up is DJ Inko's reinterpretation of Con Las Manos Arriba and he takes it straight to the dancefloor with a relentless 4-4 workout.  Dubbed out effects and stutter-step percussion create the mood and when the drop hits, you can feel your ass begin to shake.  DJ Inko is a busy and hard working club dj who knows how to get the crowd moving, and he has brought that sensibility to his remix in fine style.

Hailing from the growing Puerto Rican community in Orlando, Florida is Stereo 77 who has also remixed Con Las Manos Arriba. While also going in a house direction, this is a true “Ricanstruction” as Stereo 77 calls his remixes, so get ready for a heavy percussion section with some tropical bass throw in for good measure.  In a style familiar to the Empresarios, Stereo 77 is skilled in fusing together a variety of Caribbean styles and influences, so turn this one up loud and get down to it.  Closing out the package is Omegaman's remix of Con Las Manos Arriba, and he went in a different direction than the other two producers.  The vibe is throttled down a bit, the congas come front and center and Omegaman has infused the track with some laid-back breakbeats.  Omegaman's chilled out breaks remix is fresh and funky, sure to be a favorite with DJs and radio stations worldwide.

“Cumbia” in its original version was included in Empresarios’ 2011 debut album, Sabor Tropical, and it’s already been remixed by Nickodemus in a memorable version that was released digitally even before the album came out. So what’s the need for yet another remix eleven years later, you might wonder?

Well, for starters, “Cumbia” is a dope track, one of Empresarios’ best, and DJs keep playing it in their mixes as if it’s brand new. But mainly, The Gaff (a Canada-based DJ and break-beat connoisseur, who also happens to be from D.C.) gives it a whole new unexpected twist. Gaff takes the track in a dubby direction and adds sampled vocals in Spanish, turning it into something completely different and definitely worth a spin.

This five man collective led by Javier Miranda (Vocals, Congas, Producer) alongside John Bowen (Video DJ, Producer), Paul Chaconas (Guitar, Bass, Keys, Producer, Engineer), Sonny Cheeba (Brazilian/Latin DJ, Producer) and Sammy Arsam Khosh (House DJ, Producer) bring their own personal style to every track.
