He is an essayist and archivist. R.I.P. Germain has exhibited at Cubitt in London and NICO in Bari, Italy. His practice explores the relationships between the built environment, material culture and marginalised aesthetics, making works which consider the political and ideological histories of consumption and the production of desire. This month Rose sat down with Eva Gold. Eva is a British artist who currently lives and works in London. Her practice spans sculpture, installation, video and writing. Often combined in a process of fragmented storytelling, she navigates feelings of desire and disgust, and their uncomfortable proximity. Eva has exhibited at Ginny on Frederick, Moarain House and Goldsmiths CCA, all in London; Nir Altman in Munich, and Lock Up International in Brussels. Led by her choice of music from Ry Cooder to Aretha Franklin, we discussed haunting, control and the smell of granny’s bathroom.

For this very special live edition of Vinyl Glossolalia, Rose Easton sat down with Simeon Barclay and Solomon Garçon. Simeon Barclay draws upon a rich vein of pop cultural sources producing work to activate complex cultural histories, while exploring the ways in which we navigate identity both imposed or self-curated. Combining a diverse range of media, Barclay creates reductive, sophisticated works that engage with aspects of aesthetics, British culture, subjectivity and memory. Barclay's solo exhibition 'In The Name Of The Father' is currently on view at South London gallery. Solomon Garçon lives and works in London. His practice deals with the mythical, underground technology and the textualised body. Garçon's sonic, sculptural and performance works explore how fiction can inform reality and how bodies can become a transformative tool to propel our individual and communal potential.

Vinyl Glossolalia LIVE( E15 ) - Simeon Barclay & Solomon Garçon

New mix this month from Argentinian artist @bungalovv who returns to his melodic roots with the new release "Visited by Strangers," a tender and introspective release that blends cinematic flair with painterly textures. Composed during the pandemic, the album's tracks explore the tension between intimacy and distance, featuring collaborations and field recordings that evoke a fragile yet beautiful world of human connection.

Our first mix of the new year features @magnus-westwell 

"Created at a time when I was feeling pretty lost - working on this mix acted as some sort of solace. I wanted to create something reflective of this painful beauty that runs through a lot of my work, and life. I hope it can inspire the listener in some small way"

Magnus Westwell is a Scottish artist and director working with choreography, composition and performance. Spanning the euphoric and desolate, Magnus’ work seeks to understand and express ineffable emotional states, transcending intimacy and catharsis in movement and sound. Magnus is the founder and artistic director of Bright Storm Group, is a Sadler’s Wells Young Associate alumni, and their work has reached venues, institutions and festivals across Europe and the UK.

Phoebe is a Jamaican-British artist who currently lives and works in London.
Their practice spans ceramics, sculpture, sound and installation.
Led by their choice of music from Midnite to Oxide & Neutrino, we discussed love, choreography and Time and Envy

Vinyl Glossolalia (E19) Phoebe Collings-James

Jan Gatewood is an American artist who currently lives and works in Los Angeles. His practice spans drawing, painting, collage and sculpture. Jan has had solo exhibitions at Smart Objects in Los Angeles and Silke Lindner in New York.

His current solo exhibition, Group Relations, is on view at Rose Easton, London until 2 March 2024.

Led by his choice of music from Parliament to Yeat, we discussed poor taste, generosity, and Six Degrees of Separation.

Vinyl Glossolalia (E20) Jan Gatewood

This months mix is by @tendencyloops an artist and designer based in Porto. Tiago Caneiro delves into the realm of DJing to push the limits of performance, viewing it as a profound artistic dialogue. Through his distinctive practice, he embarks on a constant journey of experimentation, embracing novel forms, rhythms, and concepts. His creative pursuits aim to unlock a myriad of possibilities, where the pulsating energy of dance music intertwines seamlessly within the syncopations, descents, and polyrhythms of songs that have yet to be cataloged.

Emulsion 19. (TENDENCY)

Michael Ho is a Dutch, German, Chinese artist who currently lives and works in London. His practice spans painting and film and from 2019 to 2022 Michael worked as the artistic duo Michael and Chiyan Ho, this episode is dedicated to Chiyan Ho who passed away in March 2022. Led by his choice of music, from Patrick Cowley to Teresa Teng we Rose and Michael discuss cruising, conspiracy theories and catharsis.

In the lead-up to our event with @halcyon-veil at @icalondon, we invited the label to curate a special sub-series as part of the celebration of our 20th mix release under Emulsion. 

Kicking off this series is a mix from @bapari, a Haitian-American artist based in LA, known for their genre-blending, high-energy sets that explore themes of identity and movement.   

Bapari has been making waves in the underground electronic music scene and recently contributed to the production of "Eusexua," the title track of FKA Twigs’ forthcoming album.

Next up in the series, is a mix from @lolk-music , a South London duo, whose sound feels like stepping into a space where the familiar is constantly being fractured and reassembled. With sounds akin to drill, dub, punk, and garage, this eclectic mix blends playful tension with moments that are both beautiful and brutal.

We’re back with a bracing new mix from Kilo Vee, one of the most exciting new DJs to emerge from the underground club scene in China. As co-founder of label Genome 6.66 Mbp, he dedicates his time to hosting events. He’s welcomed countless international stars, adopting Shanghai’s ALL CLUB as a platform to spread an uncompromising sound. 

Kilo Vee has shared the decks with critically acclaimed artists Kode9, RP Boo, Lotic, Rabit and DJ Lag, as well as local crews. The combination has fostered a deep understanding of underground music and culture, encapsulated in raw and eclectic DJ sets. His work has paved the way for a new generation of Chinese club kids.

Emulsion's mix series resumes with the inimitable song of Finnish ‘foundscape’ artist @Cucinapovera - a lilting glossolalic lullaby drifting through an ecstatic mist of field recordings and synthesized atmospheres.

Jumpup! (an extension of his speaker-busting mix for @NTS) follows the carnival 'sound' from Port of Spain 1995 to Notting Hill 2018. A hazy fusion of jack-lead signaling, dub sound systems and youtube vlog.

Jumpup! amplifies performance artist Curtly’s ongoing exploration into contemporary playing mass and black transformation as a technology for the future.
