Bad Moon Rising Halloween Set: EMZ! | 10.27.23

From the shores of Bermuda to the inner-city musical depths of the UK underground club scene. Unearthed, heavy and convicting sound culture delivered by his Caribbean and African roots.

Bermuda born musician and visual designer Jahday Ford aka Obeka transitioned into the Manchester music scene in 2016 building a native sound and rhythm distinct to his homeland. The Me Gusta Collective Co-Founder blends native styles from Pan-African, Caribbean and South American origins that became essential for manifesting polyrhythmic electronic beats and tempos with a mix of live and software based drum recording. Obeka has ventured his sound in a multitude of UK cities and beyond the shores in Bologna, Brussels, Cuba, Lisbon and Munich and most recently finishing a debut tour in Colombia.

Fresh off his first year as a new resident for Oroko Radio based in Ghana, Obeka has dived into the airwaves of BBC Radio, Rinse FM, Rinse France, NTS Radio, Miami Community Radio and most recently Berlin radio Refuge Worldwide. Obeka has expanded his sound beyond the borders supporting musicians such as Lil Silva, Femi Kuti, Kampire, Sampha, Tinariwen and Ghanaian MC Bryte.

New Modern Heart Radio this Thursday at 7pm with @xqzmebeats ! We are super excited to have him on for this month and have featured his tracks heavily in both our live and radio mixes prior.

Hailing from the sun-soaked landscapes of California, XQZ ME proudly represents the intersection of queerness and Latinx heritage. Drawing from his background in African drumming, XQZ ME fuses energetic drum rhythms into the electronic soundscape. Expressing his queer and Latinx identities through DJing and producing, XQZ ME brings the fierce battle beats of the ballroom scene to the techno and hardgroove track-laden dancefloors. Pulling heavy influence from East Coast club sounds from Philly, Jersey and Baltimore while providing a glimpse into the ever changing LA club scene, he seamlessly merges the sounds of his curated electronic music experience. Expect percussion heavy rhythms blended with international cultural motifs when XQZ ME is on the decks.

Daphne Too provides resident support for this month, focusing primarily on Baltimore club and break sounds.
