Standalone Series: Nadege Reve (Lyon/FR) - house-techno-electro

Sometimes the best tracks come together in an instant. A spark. An idea. A trigger for a string of positive moments that collectively create something special. Our latest Rejected brace comes from two of our core label family, Nuno Dos Santos & Remy Unger who, having found that perfect synergy, look to entice us with their whirlpool of hypnotic techno. 
 
As its name suggests, 'Vortex' is inescapable. Bubbling synth and relentless claps and rides, draw us to its core. Here we're locked within the groove of this Techno gyre. Held captive by its intimidating rhythm and captivating sounds.  
 
Less intimidating, but equally captivating is 'Next To Nowhere. An energetic and driving dispatch, built upon a colossal kick-drum, its dubby vibe garnished with acid touches to create a wonderfully tempestuous partner to our A side.

Nuno Dos Santos & Remy Unger - Vortex

‘33T.E.P.S.V. Remixes’ including mixes from Avision, Voltaire, Works Of Intent, Rocco Rodamaal, Reshit, 22Carbone and The Limiñanas, with six coming on wax and four as exclusive digital bonuses.

The release will be out on vinyl & digital on COD 3 QR on the 29th of September.

This summer, Laurent Garnier announced the launch of his latest landmark album. The newest LP showed why he is such a vital force with a series of cuts, distilling his 30+ year career experiences into cutting-edge electronic music full of tension and release.  Now he continues to prove he operates at the vanguard with this
exemplary assembly of remixers.

UK techno mainstay Works Of Intent, fka R.O.S.H., opens up with his Farewell remix of 'Reviens La Nuit', a dark, pulsing techno sound with widescreen cosmic chords and unsettling modulations. Romantic techno
master Voltaire then flips 'Tales From The Real World' into a scintillant melodic excursion with arps cascading down the face of the track and fizzing synths lighting up the electro beats.
Next is 22Carbone, who are featured on the original album but here remix 'In Your Phase' into a grimy, broken beat with tough bars and twisted metal textures next to the menacing mic work. Rocco Rodamaal has 30 years of experience and is one of few veterans that remains genuinely relevant today. He offers two versions of 'Liebe Grüße aus Cucuron' - a smooth and deep elongated techno trip and a fizzing Keys Mix doused in melodic charm.
New York's new wave techno star Anthony Cardinale aka Avision, lights up his remix of 'Le Swing Du Pouletto' with radiant and optimistic synths and a dark, brooding low end.   Later he brings plenty of marching
menace and pent-up synth tension to his rework of 'Liebe Grüße aus Cucuron'.   Reshit's take on 'On the Record' offers a dreamy ambient soundscape with downtempo breaks and expansive prog-rock style synths.
The Limiñanas are Lionel and Marie Limiñana - a pair based in the deep south of France who record garage, psych and pop music and have previously paired up with Garnier on the successful album ”De Pelicula”.
They offer a long and short remix of 'Saturn Drive', which in their hands is a dirty post-punk gem with raw drums and sleazy guitars creating walls of reverberating sound.

This sophisticated selection of techno remixes brings all-new emotions and moments of dance floor brilliance to Laurent Garnier's superb originals.

January is the month for dreaming, or so the saying goes and there’s more than enough on 2020’s Dots and Pearls 6 to satisfy the wildest flights of fantasy, as Cocoon Recordings invites well known international artists to once again rub shoulders with some of the freshest new talents around.  

First up, Eduardo de la Calle & Romina Cohn’s “I’m Losing My Mind“ does a decent job helping us lose ours. Taking the classic DBX template as a start point, Cohn‘s random, spaced out musings elevate things to another level as they filter through all manner of machinery, bathing the hypnotic percussion in a lysergic glow. Fabe’s “Call of Origin“ pulls no punches either, the energetic, bass driven intro bouncing its way centre stage before expanding into lush open spaces with occasional melodic scatters and washes of warm pads that radiate good vibes.

Over the last couple of years, Adana Twins have rightly consolidated there position at the top table, so it’s a pleasure to have them on board with “Origo“. Like snake charmers relentlessly teasing and twisting the infectious hook line in all manner of directions, they demonstrate complete control of their art, pushing all the right buttons to bring things nicely to the boil. As with all Cocoon compilations the deeper you dive, the stranger the vibe and Juan Sanchez delivers a dose of trance-inducing, minimal techno. Abiding by the same dogma as the track before, “Narcissus“ offsets a constantly morphing hypnotic hook line with raw, stripped 909 beats in a classic mid 90‘s style.

Michael Klein’s “Continuation“ maintains the intensity as Cocoon’s Techno Tardis transports the listener even further back to a sweaty early nineties warehouse. It could be London, it could be Berlin... wherever it is, it sure sounds like home. Rico Puestel then snuffs out the candle, plunging us back into darkness. With “Perpetua Mobilia“ he unleashes a deep, prowling beast of a track that reminds us that just when you think you‘ve got a handle on Cocoon, it sheds its skin again, revealing yet another mask behind the mask.

As we motor on towards morning, Radu Dracul adds some bite to proceedings with “Spectrae“, a slow burning psychedelic trip with gently percolating acid lines that smooth out the rough textures of the preceding tracks before giving way to a cavernous breakbeat inflected breakdown. And then finally, Joe Metzenmacher and Borka & The Gang close out the collection, paying homage to the melodic side of Detroit with the quirky, idiosyncratic yet ultimately beautiful “Magic Talk“. It surrounds the dance floor in a warm embrace as keys, strings and bass combine effortlessly to produce a priceless moment of collective euphoria that sees us safely home.

Ena Smajić is a DJane from Sarajevo, cultivated her musical journey from playing the piano at a young age in a music school.  Her sets are a combination of various music genres, ranging from house music to dark, intense techno sounds. In her sets, you can hear many tracks interspersed with vocals. She enjoys experimenting, with a primary focus on rhythm and  the audience. She has performed at festivals such as Exit, Life Festival in Ireland, Fresh Wave, Garden of Dreams, and many others. As the founder of "Decode," a club night in Sarajevo, she organized events featuring regional artists. She is a resident DJ at the underground club Silver & Smoke. In 2023, she established the organization "Eclipse," which garnered significant attention and interest with its first event under the repeater on Hum. She has also performed at many clubs, including Barutana, Nomad, Raft 25, Silver & Smoke, Trezor, and Frka etc. So far, she has shared the stage with many global and regional stars, including Ame, Patrice Baumel, Marco Faraone, Alberto Ruiz, Vinicius Honorio, Recondite, Insolate, Tomy de Clerque, &me, Jennifer Cardini, Yokoo, Alen Milivojevic, After Affair, and many others.
