Produced by Luciano Sallun from São Paulo, Brazil, it is not surprising to use forms of technology and virtual productions, where since the first albums the union between technology and multimedia art has been explored. This album in a complete way, was worked on in a virtual way. The recordings were made with each musician in his home studio. Music production can unite, as in this case, composition, arrangements, editions and creations with technology in an integrated way, where we can also expand the idea that technology can offer for moments like Pandemic. Luciano Sallun produced the tracks by integrating a network of artists from different locations.

With this, the project has countless participations that cover different Mundus. As a virtuoso classical singer Tahir Qawwal with chants of the classical style called “Qawwalli” which is a traditional song from Pakistan and India. The singer Luana Feboli, Brazilian resident in Los Angeles. Moroccan singer Jamal Nouman. The trombonist Stephen Bamboli from France and the Italian Lorenzo Mantovani in the Indian sarangi. One of the biggest producers of the ethnic genre with electronics, Seb Taylor (Kaya Project) from England also participated in one of the tracks entitled Tambor. Also the Peruvian musician Horacio Camargo in the quena, zamponha and saxophone flutes, and the percussionist Mariposa Hadha from Paraguay. Also participating were Alexandre Lora in the hangdrum, Felipe Pipeta (Black Mantra) in the trumpet, the musician and producer from Kadu Hidalgo (Kadum) in the saxophone, flute, hsangdrum and synthesizers. Paraiba musician Rodrigo Marques (Parahyba Ska Jazz) on sax and flute. Musician and music producer Thiago Duar (Mental Abstract), pianist and arranger Adriano Grinenberg. Other guests such as percussionist Alan Golçalvez, in the fiddle Felipe Myake, the Minas Gerais producer Gui Dub, the drummer Pedro Rangel, the researcher and player Bernardo Bittencout and also in the Indian bamsuri Ivan Vendramini, in the didgeriddo Raphael Franco, Alani Maciel and Thiago Zuza (Didgeridoo Fest Br), percussionist Daniel Puerto Rico and drummer Guilherme Nakata.

Almost one year ago to the date, Buraka Som Sistema were called to perform on the first Boiler Room in their hometown of Lisbon. On the first 15 minutes of this now-legendary set (which you can still watch on Youtube) a new sound was introduced to the world. An intense, hypnotic and tropical-flavored 90 BPM beat got the crowd moving and Buraka’s sharply-dressed master of ceremonies Kalaf picked up the microphone - “We call it Zouk Bass”, he shouted. There are a few bands that will always make you remember where you were when you first listened to them. The Peruvian masked duo from Lima named Dengue Dengue Dengue is definitely one of those bands. The year was 2012 and Rafael Pereira and Felipe Salmon had just released their debut album ‘La Alianza Profana’, where their unique take on cumbia with dub and techno elements was presented to the world via stunning tracks like Simiolo, and complemented by a vibrant, colorful and psychedelic aesthetic on their videos and live visuals. We were instantly hooked. 

From then on, we knew we had to have Dengue Dengue Dengue on the Enchufada catalog. Fast-forward to the present and the boys have turned in an incredible six-track EP called ‘Serpiente Dorada’, which sees their unique and unmistakable sound develop and grow even further. While the relentless and hypnotic cumbia is still at the core of their sound – as the title-track Serpiente Dorada proudly displays – one can also hear as zouk bass slowly enters the melting pot of influences on Banana or Bugutu, while still managing to sound like no one else. The Jamaican sounds of dub, reggae and dancehall weigh heavily over the whole EP, but it’s in Booom that they make themselves more noticeable, while Rama sees the Peruvian duo leave their comfort zone and experiment with 120BPM beats. Finally, Senen Pani provides the perfect EP closer in the form of a dreamy, rhythmically-charged psychedelic lullaby. 

Perfectly translating the band’s approach to club music, ‘Serpiente Dorada’ is an infectious and colorful mixture of global sounds, as genres are used as a starting point on their ongoing search for the perfect hybrid beat, where the total is more than the sum of its parts.

Microcosmos Records announces Step of Yours Is Forever Light by Dva Dereva.

Dva Dereva is a duet from Kropyvnytskyi (Ukraine). It consists of Nadezhda Makarova (vocals), Artem Cherchynskyi (synthesizers, flutes: duduk, native American flute, bansuri). The project performs meditative acoustic and electronic music using a wide range of ethnic instruments.

Step of Yours Is Forever Light is a wonderful blend of electronic drone and the sensual vocals of Nadezhda Makarova, which combine the album’s tracks into a single concept. Ethnic instrument improvisations performed by Artem Cherchynskyi add natural vibes to the soundscapes, and the field recordings expand the feeling of a full immersion into the natural, earthly mood of the album.

The deep, consistent sound of synthesizers combined with the melodic vocals and woodwind instruments gives a dramatic feel, and makes us reflect on what the future has for us. The sound of a distant time and place. Rough, green landscapes, rivers and the music of leaves blown by the wind, enticed by the beat of a drum or a kultrum. 

The strum of a charango is revived decades later, finding space in the silence between electronic beats, in a stillness where anything can happen: a crack, an electronic bass or just a pause in time. 

On Estelas Argentine producer Cecilia Gebhard AKA Barda revives three pieces of music from her home continent, each from a distant time, place and author but sharing the limelight together for the first time and creating a new dialogue between them. Rarely, if ever, did Alejandro Camara, Hermanos Berbel and Manuel y Julio Gómez Carrillo share the same stage. 

Barda carefully unites these tracks, revisits them with a dexterity, skill and respect for the originals, putting them in a new context and highlighting their ability to evoke the landscapes that inspired them, this time together, looking out from under the same tree.
