In 2019, whilst touring Japan, Barrio Lindo found himself moving away from the dance floor, 
instead getting lost in his headphones while listening to music that dismissed genre, oscillating 
between jazz, chamber orchestras and electronica. As a producer at the forefront of Latin America’s 
folktronica scene over the last 10 years, Agustín Rivaldo, to give Barrio Lindo his given name, has 
proven himself more than adept at crafting soundscapes that can transport listeners, full of detail 
and nuance, but they always had to pander to the club and its duty to keep revellers energised. The 
epiphany in Japan necessitated a change in direction, to make music that people could get lost in, 
and which also meant he could revert to his younger self, that guy in his twenties playing guitar 
with his friends, just for fun. So he booked a studio on the outskirts of Buenos Aires in early 2020 
and invited some friends over; the idea was simple, let’s play some music and see where it takes us. 
Espuma de Mar is the result, those initial sessions refined over the intervening years, new 
collaborators brought in where necessary, the production crafted in the same manner as his previous 
electronic-focused output, but the feel here, the ambience, is completely different. Like the espuma 
de mar, the sea foam that gives the album its name, this music has a fleeting quality, it arrives, 
imperfectly, and never stops transforming; it replenishes, it diminishes, it breathes.

Geo Balasta est un irréductible gaulois, ancré dans le tellurisme de nos régions. Il produit des strates de matières sonores pastorales avec lesquelles il joue pour faire une techno sédimentaire.

L’aspect Géologique de Balasta ne fait aucun doute, il travaille chaque track jusqu’à sa presque saturation rajoutant couche après couche, créant ainsi des montagnes électroniques.

À un moment ou tout s’accélère, ce charpentier technoïde décide d’appuyer encore plus fort avec une musique directe et intense. Nous pouvons y voir une certaine forme de fatalité, mais aussi un réel désir d’abandon, provoquant un rapport purement physique de sécrétion de liquide biologique.

Mais ne vous y trompez pas, derrière ces différentes strates se cache une vision des jours et des nuits remplies d’humour, il joue avec ces matières minérales pour mieux évoquer les bêtes qui les arpentent. Des paysages sonores riches et frontaux par lesquels il nous pose la question de notre contemplation ou de notre participation.

Pour les remixes, il convie sa famille musicale à étendre les champs topographiques.

Geo Balasta is an irreducible Gallic, rooted in the Telurism of our regions. He produces strata of pastoral sound matter with which he plays to make sedimentary techno.

There's no doubting Balasta's geological aspect, as he works each track to its near- turation, adding layer upon layer, creating electronic mountains. 

At a time when everything is accelerating, this technoid carpenter decides to push even harder with direct, intense music. We can see in this a certain form of fatality, but also a real desire for abandonment, provoking a purely physical relationship of secretion of biological fluid.

But make no mistake, behind these different strata lies a vision of days and nights filled with humor, playing with these mineral materials to better evoke the beasts that roam them. Rich, frontal soundscapes in which he asks us to contemplate or participate.

For his remixes, he invites his musical family to extend their tographic fields.

Dengue Dengue Dengue continue expanding their carefully created aesthetic on their new album ‘Zenit & Nadir’ by diving into the deep and rich musical history of Afro-Peruvian music, already hinted in the first single ‘Ágni’, which is the inversion of the traditional Afro-Peruvian rhythm Ingá. The ongoing exploration of the vast and rich musical heritage of the descendants of the former African slaves in Peru has become the main focus of their new album. 

Their interest in Afro-Peruvian music has led them to meet and record extensively with several members of the Ballumbrosio family, a renowned musical dynasty in Peru that has kept Afro-Peruvian musical traditions alive, masters of rhythms like landó, festejo and crioullo music, with traditional dances and instruments such as the iconic quijada - a rattling percussive instrument made out of a donkey’s jawbone. 

The introduction of live recordings with the Ballumbrosio brothers has given a whole new dimension to their always-expanding sound, and they feature extensively all throughout the album. As they were such an integral part of the recording process it made perfect sense that they would contribute to expand Dengue Dengue Dengue’s memorable audiovisual performance as well, and have began playing live shows together this year. The marriage between the traditional and organic percussion of the Ballumbrosios with DDD’s hypnotic electronic production has created a whole new chapter for the band. 

After debuting in 2012, they established themselves as a driving force in the thriving South American digital cumbia scene, but have since expanded their hybrid approach to music to introduce more references such as kuduro and zouk - and more recently the above mentioned Afro-Peruvian styles - which they fuse with traditional Latin American rhythms to build a sonic identity that is hypnotic and dark, while simultaneously festive and life-affirming. 

With the band being a visual project as much as a musical one, their carefully created aesthetic can be immediately noticed in the iconic masks they wear, often referencing traditional or indigenous elements while being artful and futuristic, a striking visual representation of their approach to music. Their new masks, which are being debuted on their upcoming tour, were handcrafted by Barcelona-based artists Twee Muizen.
