XXIII // VOLUME 10 is a club welcome. We’ve been through 19 months without parties and seeing people dancing in front of us.
After this desert of clubbing we celebrate the reopening of our favourite dancefloors with a compilation mainly made by Portuguese producers, but also some international friends we’ve met in the past 6+ years of XXIII’s life.

If you’ve been paying attention to the Global Club Music scene for the past few years, then you’re surely familiar with the next artist to enter the Upper Cuts series. Formerly known as Douster, this French DJ and producer has been exploring tropical-flavored club genres for a long time, which led him to participate on our 2010 EP ‘Hard Ass Sessions Volume II’ with the kuduro-leaning A Mi a Loco, besides having releases on Mad Decent, Sound Pellegrino, ZZK Records and more.

Fast-forward to the present and the name is now King Doudou but the global feel of his productions is still intact as he joins the Upper Cuts series with Sal, a futuristic baile funk and dembow hybrid. Inspired by the constantly evolving baile funk 2.0 scene, the beatmaker injected a healthy dose of dembow rhythms, hypnotic melodies and looping vocal samples to create a club-ready track that will delight the most global-minded DJs and dancers out there.

Bristol heavyweights Kahn and Neek take on Keysound Recordings’ Wen and the London City Warlord, Riko Dan with their justly diabolical flip of “Play Your Corner”. An eerily mellow atmosphere lingering over Riko’s unrelenting vocal, along with the flute-line and sub bass makes for a winning combination.

This one’s undoubtedly been getting dropped (and undoubtedly getting wheeled) in K+N club and festival sets since it was made, but here it is in full for the very first time.

We can hardly believe it ourselves, but our little label just turned fifteen. In human terms it would mean we´re teenagers in full swing, in dance music terms it´s like we´re silver agers. In the fast paced world of dance we´ve seen a lot of trends come and go. We´ve also seen artist careers rising quickly to the top and then suddenly crumbling. And despite the profound changes in the musical landscape, we´re still here and people still play our music. One of the reasons is that we stuck to our original aim: To release exciting music from around the world. And the interest in local music styles from outside the Anglo-Saxon cultural sphere has risen.

Since Man 01, the "Não Wave - Brazilian Post Punk 1979-1988" compilation, we were especially keen on blending local roots with the global in music, which has become a mega trend in pop and dance music. When we started the label in 2005 the internet was still a privilige of the Northern hemisphere and people were still buying vinyls and CDs.

Since we can´t throw a big celebration for our anniversary due to pandemic restrictions, we decided to put together a compilation with remixes of fifteen tracks from our catalogue. We asked young and upcoming remixers that grew up with the Man Recordings sound over all these years, to put their hand onto selected tracks and rework them 2020 style. 

The line up is great and the remixes even greater. The "15 Years Of Man Recordings" compilation features reworks by Ckrono, Lorenzo BITW, 2Pekes, Rolv.K, Kensaye, KG, Don Low, Bianca Oblivion and So Vital amongst others. There´s some super fresh takes on our former releases, and some solid club compatible bangers. They all resonate that Man Recordings is here to stay!
